For those of us who remember The Who, am I the only one who thought it was an embarrassing display of bad singing? Seriously when there are only two members of the original bad left, and your voice is hoarse and aged, maybe it''s time to play Bingo and get off the stage

It''s sad that some of the younger people will listen to that half time show and think "that''s what they listened to???"

Well, my hubby and I remember them when they were at their prime, but they were a good bit older than us then. My husband said they should have asked them to do the Super Bowl 15 or 20 years ago.

I just spent the entire half time show commenting on how ragged they look, how bad they sound and isn''t it time they quit already? Then again, I don''t suppose they''re worried about a wardrobe malfunction with these guys!

I just heard it too. While they're a bit before my time, their stuff is classic. Even though they didn't sound great, I thought they were ok for their age

Then again, I never heard them live in their prime.

HI:

My husbamd is enamoured with them as he saw them in concert while in UNiversity--but I could have lived without Pete T''s "belly" shot....

cheers--Sharon

Really? I thought it was fairly good. Better than the usual old-guy rock that they bring on for half time.

But maybe I'm biased because I love the Who. I honestly didn't think they were as bad as I expected (I have extremely low halftime expectations). Certainly not as bad as Mick Jagger a few years ago!

eta: Daltrey's voice was far better than Townshend, but Daltrey did most of the singing anyway. Townshend did sound really rough. Daltrey's also never been a perfect singer - he's always been more of a shouter, but that's his style.

I dunno...the shots of Pete Townsends gut while doing windmills on the guitar may have been a little questionably indecent for me...

I thought the singing was disgraceul.
There are plenty of musicians their age and older who still sound great.

As a member of a younger generation who was lucky enough to see them in concert about 5 years ago and thought they put on a great show I was pleased to see them play The Superbowl. Their music is timeless and while that wasn''t the best show ever put on, it was better than a lot of current artists would have performed.

They should retire. I always liked their music but seriously. . .

I agree with the other poster that halftime expectations are increasingly lower every year. I know they are playing in an open field and sound quality isn''t nearly as good as what we are used to but some of these shows leave you scratching your head!

I thought Daltry struggled to remember the words, they look old and ragged and the sound was awful. Sad what drugs do to you.

I think they did an okay job, as a classic group and all... , BUT I think the NFL needs to step it up a bit and start relating to the younger generations taste... (or atleast a band that is somewhere in the middle)

Loved the WHO. We really enjoyed the half time show. We have a nephew who's on the track to be a rock star. His band is very well known, so not going to mention it.

But will say, for some of us, this performance was pretty good. It's more the memories than anything else.. I think they gave it their all. And kudos to them for doing so.

Did anyone else notice that the drummer was clearly picked because he looks like Keith Moon? He also obviously watched some videos of live shows and tried to channel Moon (did a passable job of it, but didn''t have any of the manic energy). I give him credit for his effort since he probably wasn''t even alive when Moon was.

Well, it''s the middle-aged + group who probably buys most of the season tickets for NFL games, so I imagine that has a little to do with the choice of performers.

I was like, oh hey, those guys are playing the CSI theme song!

It's Ringo Starr's son, Zac Starkey, he's been playing with them for some time.

Oh really? That''s pretty cool, actually. He definitely reminded me of Moon - more so than Ringo!

Guess I''m in the minority, I thought they were pretty good, especially considering they''re both around 65...but the Who is one of my favorite bands, so I guess I''m biased. Two major icons of rock, and I respect that.

Yeah we turned!

I thought they were pretty good! They are rock legends. If they still want to be onstage entertaining people, more power to them. I have much respect

Yup, I believe Moon was very close to Ringo and gave Starkey lessons when he was a kid.

I just looked him up and he''s older than I thought - born in 1965. I kind of assumed he was 10 years younger. And he''s played with the Who since 1994!

Oooo, very intriguing! Obviously wouldn''t bother you to find out which band...but that''s really awesome! You must be a proud aunt!

weellll...

they sounded dreadful

PP - i have a general rule of thumb re bands....

a band should break up when either - one or more of their members id dead, or the sum of their ages is greater than the age of the EARTH.

pretty sure both The Who and the Stones fall into this category. and on that basis, the Traveling Wilburys should never have been formed.
