. . . olive oil, of course.

What do you get?

At Costco, I just bought two 2-liter bottles of Kirkland Signature Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
It's 100% Italian.
That's 4-liters for $19.99.
In my book there's nothing more delcious than an Italian virgin olive oil, though Spanish and Greek virgins are seductive too.

What do you buy?
Do you pay extra for extra extra virgin olive oil?
Or do you settle for olives that have been [shudder] used-before?

Or do you not buy olive oil at all? [shudder #2]

Oh, Kenny, you are a gem. :cheeky:

We buy the jug of Kirkland's at Costco. It lasts forever. My mom swears by Whole Foods brand, so we may try that next.

Um well I was a teenager but I was in a long term relationship and we were very responsible and...

...ooooh. Oh I see. Ah, well, um, just ah...ignore that last bit. I get the extra virgin from Aldi.

:cheeky:   ;))

I buy the Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Costco. I think it's only 1 liter though.

I think a thread about this would be much more amusing if we skipped the olive oil part.......

by the title i thought this was gonna be an interesting thread. :(sad

Ha, you are hilarious, Kenny!

Right now we have the Whole Foods brand Extra Virgin Spanish olive oil. It's great. I'll have to try the Costco kind, though...

OMG AMazon has it.
Only one 2-liter bottle is $27.

I bought two 2-liter bottles for $19.99.
Whassup with the Amazon listing?
Someone's making a profit trafficking Italian virgins.

I also got the costco Kirkland kind.

Well DF, you could use the oil for interesting things. :Up_to_something:

LOL!

...we use kirkland too (from costco) ::)

OO is the only oil we use in this house.
I think it is the most healthy, but with today's corporate-owned media there's probably someone somewhere saying Mobile1 is better for you. :o

Do you OO-users use other oils besides OO?

I am an almost 100% OO fan with EVOO for many things and LOO for baking and other things, though I like the flavor good EVOO gives to thinks like pancakes and brownies.

I also keep it in my bathroomI use it for everything, hair treatments, cleaning my ears, moisturizing my skin.... and it's the best stuff in the bedroom too, speaking of all things virginal, it makes an excellent lubricant :naughty:

no i don't

I get La Romanella Extra Virgin (3L),they sell it at this italian deli by my house for a super good deal, and we use a ton of it, so its worth it to buy bulk. To answer your later question, I do use other oils. I use toasted sesame oil, walnut oil, and Ill infuse the extra virgin with peppers and garlic/rosemary every once in a while. I like different flavors.

EVOO = Extra Virgin Olive Oil

LOO = Loose? Olive Oil

Nurse Mina says:
Oil should not be used with condoms

Extra Extra Virgins don't need condoms. :saint:

yeah but it works GREAT with vasectomies :appl:

I get either Olio Santo or the House Blend from Williams Sonoma. And then, Sur La Table sells a truffle infused OO that is amazing.

The Olio Santo is like $28.00 a bottle and the Williams Sonoma House is like $25.00. The truffle oil is around $20 for somewhat small amount.

Sur La Table has a bunch of olive oils with different flavors, but I haven't had the chance to try them out yet.

There's a fantastic Italian deli about 40 miles from our house. I make a pilgrimage a few times a year to get whatever olive oil they are recommending. I've never been disappointed. They lay out their top 5 with dipping bread so you can taste before you buy. I buy the one I like the flavour of and about half the time it's EEVO. They have different oils from small producers as well as some of the more commercial ones.

They also sell (in season) Sicilian lemons and saturn peaches, which are also well worth the trip. Oh, and wonderful Italian sausages. Since I don't go there very often, I try not to look at the £ total. It's the only time I just look away and hand over my card.

Ok, I'm hungry now.

I do the very same thing every two weeks at the farmers market. And since FI very sweetly does my accounting for me I don't have to deal with the fallout, either :rodent:

Fallout! LOL.
I don't grudge paying for really good food (it just makes me cringe a little unless I look away at the point of sale  )

i now prefer spanish olive oils.

i've also read that the olive oils sold in plastic bottles can/may have issues......and that inexpensive olive oils also have issues due to the manner of processing.

I almost didn't open this thread. When I can't tell that the subject is something like olive oil, I often just skip the thread. I'm glad that my curiosity got the better of me in this case, however.

I am surprised that no one has yet mentioned, "first cold press". I look for that more than for country of origin. I look for extra virgin olive oil, first cold press. Frankly, I have no idea what the difference is between "extra" and "extra extra" virgin olive oil. Would someone like to tell me?

PS-I don't use olive oil for all my cooking! I find it far too heavy for many things, including many of the desserts that I bake!

I should have known when I saw the author of this thread, lol.

I use Kirkland's for regular cooking as well. I was going to buy this fancy stuff at the Ferry Plaza - McEvoy Ranch, but I guess the one my co-worker said to get was out in the big drum...guess last year was a bad one for olives.

Quote:
First press is no longer an official definition for olive oil. A century ago, oil was pressed in screw or hydraulic presses. The paste was subjected to increasingly high pressures with subsequent degradation in the flavor of the oil. Today the vast majority of oil is made in continuous centrifugal presses. There is no second pressing.

Here is a nice olive oil dictionary: http://www.oliveoilsource.com/definitions

The whole website makes for some fascinating reading.

Kenny, I'm shocked....where is the "alternate" virginity thread?
