The Trumpet 1-31-2017

Nice song. I saw people had commented that it reflected on Trump's relationship with Putin. I couldn't believe it when I heard on the radio yesterday that Trump had just had a long telephone call with Putin. Doesn't he have anything better to do than to talk to that tyrant? He just came into office and the country is going up in flames, protesting. And he's chatting up Putin while ignoring our NATO allies? Congress? The people? He is a real b*stard.

We have a fascist leader who is a puppet of a white suprematist who is determined to destroy the state and hurl us into a dystopian existence. We need an uprising of monumental proportions to storm Washington, surround the White House and the Capitol and demand the removal of cheeto and his band of rabid dogs.

Cheeto, his rabid dogs kellyanne conjob and bannon-the-cannon-let's-destroy-america-for-grins-and-giggles have stated that those who oppose cheeto are traitors. When the regime is destroyed, my fervent hope is that all congress and senate members who supported cheeto are jailed for treason.

CHIP SOMODEVILLA
A tale of two terrifying quotes.

Over the last ten days, it's been easy to feel like shadow President Donald Trump and the actual President Steve Bannon are purposely trying to destroy this country, but common sense would indicate that such an idea would be ridiculous. After all, these are men who wanted the giant responsibility of running the nation. Surely, they couldn't have set out to do evil, right, guys? Right? I said, right, guys? Oh no. The fact that no one is responding is a little unnerving. Well, if you are to believe these next two sources, it sure seems like Donald Trump and Steve Bannon are okay with letting the whole thing burn down. Those sources? Donald Trump and Steve Bannon.
First, here's Trump in an interview with Fox News in 2014 (quotes via the New Statesman):
“A lot of people live better without having a job, than with having a job. I’ve had it where you have people and you want to hire them, but they can’t take the job for a period of nine months because they’re doing better now than they would with a job.”
“You know what solves it? When the economy crashes, when the country goes to total hell, and everything is a disaster, then you’ll have riots to go back to where we used to be, when we were great.”
Well, that's terrifying. Our current president once expressed the thought that having the economy crash—never mind the millions of families such catastrophe would devastate—would help get America back to how it "used to be, when we were great." Now, you could argue that 2014 was a long time ago (it isn't) and maybe he's changed his mind since then (he hasn't), but look at that verbiage. That's some proto–Make America Great Again bullshit.
Thankfully, I'm sure his advisers are not so cavalier about the idea of America as we know it crumbling... Oh no. Steve Bannon said some scary shit, didn't he? (via The Daily Beast):
“I’m a Leninist,” Bannon proudly proclaimed.
Shocked, I asked him what he meant. “Lenin,” he answered, “wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.”
Bannon was employing Lenin’s strategy for Tea Party populist goals. He included in that group the Republican and Democratic Parties, as well as the traditional conservative press.
And now Steve Bannon, a man who ran Breitbart, with its horrifying views on white nationals, has been added to the National Security Council, because handing him control of domestic issues wasn't quite dangerous enough for our boy Donny. Hell, Bannon wants a literal and bloody religious war.

In the first few days after the US inaugurated its new president, Republicans who openly criticized Donald Trump on the campaign trail remained mostly mum as he issued executives orders that stretched the power of the presidency. Many were taking a “wait and see” approach, to find out if they could get the corporate tax breaks and regulatory rollbacks they want while Trump pushed parts of his agenda they don’t agree with.
That honeymoon is over now.
Over the weekend, Republican bankroller Charles Koch broached a topic that seemed unthinkable just months ago in America—that the US president could morph into a dictator, unless his power is checked. “We have a tremendous danger because we can go the authoritarian route … or we can move toward a free and open society,” Koch reportedly told a closed-door meeting of Republicans. A representative for the political network spearheaded by the multibillionaire and his brother David Koch said Sunday (Jan. 29) that Trump’s Jan. 27 executive order banning all refugees from coming into the country and halting immigration from select countries “is the wrong approach and will likely be counterproductive.” Republican US senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham are among those who issued strong statements condemning the measures.
Trump’s executive order on immigration sparked authoritarian fears not just for an anti-Muslim tone that critics say is unconstitutional, but because of the hasty, clandestine way in which it was compiled. A final copy of the order wasn’t reviewed by the US Department of Homeland Security until the day it was signed, CNN reported, or by Congressional committees already working on immigration policy, or by immigration officials until after it was signed, the Wall Street Journal reported. US Custom and Border Protection officials and agents at airports weren’t briefed on how it would work before they started detaining people at airports.
And yet, it immediately took effect, upending decades of US immigration policy.
Republicans who stood up to Trump on the immigration order already have earned the ire of the president himself, and his vocal and strident fan base. Graham and McCain are “wrong” and “sadly weak on immigration,” Trump tweeted after they criticized the order. The two senators were trolled with gifs of two-headed snakes on Twitter and accused of being “traitors” by alt-right Breitbart news readers.

I am not usually in agreement with these types of ideas, but now I've completely changed my mind. My question now is: how do we accomplish this? How do we start this type of "uprising", and how can I help? I feel powerless and so upset. :wavey:

I'm going to find the contact info for the sponsors of the women's march, the scientists march, democratic groups in my state and have them work on contacting dems in other states and ask those who have already started a movement to band together into a cohesive group. One of the issues facing us today is that everyone with a particular interest (environment, women's rights et al) are focusing on their particular issue(s) while Rome burns. The ultimate problem is the current administration -- their policies are distractions from the big picture. The administration must go.

Great idea. I've signed up for all of those groups, but you are right that we need to ALL ban together against the administration, since all of these groups share a common goal in getting Chump OUT.

I actually had a vision of something similar while enraged at the arrogance of Trump's moves during the past couple of days. Perhaps inspired by memories of the women's march following Trump's inauguration, I imagined the streets around The Capitol filled with people protesting the actions of the government and refusing to allow legislators to carry on with business as usual. I envisioned a General Strike, with no one able to enter The Capitol to approve Jeff Sessions or a new Supreme Court Justice. Until Donald Trump resigned like Richard Nixon.

Anonymous Group Reveals Direct Phone Numbers For White House Staff
Once upon a time, if you had a problem with something the President was doing, you could call up the White House's public comments line and complain to a staffer about it. Whether or not that grievance got heard is up for debate, but at least you could try. Of course, President Trump doesn't want to hear your SAD LOSER WHINING, so that public comments line got shut down, and folks with problems are urged to send messages through Facebook Messenger or whitehouse.gov/comment, where they are certain to disappear into the ether. As an alternative, an anonymous group of concerned citizens have compiled a resource full of White House phone numbers, so you can flood Team Trump with all of your outraged feedback.
The resource, cheekily dubbed "White House Comment Line," was aggregated by an anonymous group who wanted to make sure the public could still send a message to the White House. "Open communication is the foundation of a good, functioning democracy," a spokesperson for the group told Gothamist in a statement. "But it's a two-way street. Right now there's 'information' coming out of the White House to the people, but not much the other way around. They may have shut down the comment line, but we the people still have comments. In light of that, we wanted to create one way for the people to be heard."
The group that collected the numbers intentionally excluded any they believed had a role in national security, because they said they wanted to avoid disrupting them and keep the focus on transparency and domestic accountability. A solid chunk of the numbers were disconnected, probably during the Obama-to-Trump transition, but it's possible they'll be put back in use if Trump ever gets around to hiring White House staffers. We've been calling the numbers on the list and have found a few fun ones—somewhere in there you'll get a voice mailbox belonging to one "Conway, Kellyanne." See if you can leave her a message before it's disconnected.

The group hopes that people will use the resource to let staffers know how they feel about certain policies to "demand fairness and transparency in the policy making process." They recommend you call as many numbers as you can until you reach someone. "Just like you would call your member of Congress, calmly share your views with the White House. You have the right to be heard," the spokesperson told us.
