Liar liar pants on fire We know the tweeter-in-chief is a liar. He doesn't care enough about the citizens of this country to tell the truth. He can't handle the truth. No truth, no trust. "A relationship without trust is like a cell phone without service. All you can do is play games" (anon). It's not about the size of the crowd, it's about the persistence of lies.

A potential silver lining to the cheeto presidency: It appears that some media organizations are starting to recommit to two important tenets of journalism -- credibility and accuracy.

Perfect quote . That press briefing with Spicer was one of the most insane things I've ever seen. His relationship with the truth is fascinating. And confused.

In today's Propaganda 101, we have the following: "alternative facts"

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/01/22/kellyanne-conway-says-donald-trumps-team-has-alternate-facts-which-pretty-much-says-it-all/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_fix-facts-1215pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.f06c18669694

For those who are all agog, here is how it will likely go down. As this explanation (screen-captured from the article above) indicates, "It's gonna get real bad." Strap in folks. We've got a long way to go and a lot of work to do.

ETA - sorry it's so grainy. Easier to read it at the WaPo directly.

The most recent from twitter-in-chief in the order the appear on his twitter page. This is the only source we have at the moment "right from horse's mouth" and it behooves us to be aware, question, and analyze.

Note: In his first tweet about the protests he assumes they didn't vote. Whether they did or didn't makes no difference. He also ignores that some of those protesting may be the 3 million voters who cost him the popular vote; in the 2nd he acknowledges the right and value of peaceful protest. Typical MO -- negative followed by positive = no negative.

In the tweet about the inauguration, he chose to compare his ratings to Obama's 2nd inauguration when the more accurate comparison is to Obama's 1st. Apples to apples = two first term presidents rather than a first termer and a 2nd termer.

ksinger I almost posted this exact thing. Thank you for doing so! It was something to see the media's (liberal and conservative-leaning alike) reaction to being so blatantly lied to, but like the document says, Trump's base will automatically believe it, verification be damned. We must not become the fatigued.

Nope. But it sounds great. I'll pick up a copy. Thanks for the heads-up!

Not necessarily dystopian, but still, I've always loved "The Dispossessed".

I like pretty much like all her books. The Left Hand of Darkness especially.

CJ Cherryh's stuff is interesting, not all dystopian; Shari Tepper's A Gate to Women's Country is memorable, post-apocalyptic.

WARNING!!! Another contribution to The Daily (or so) Trumpet. Harsh thought piece for the day.

Do NOT read unless you voted. For one of the two big candidates. You will be unhappy if you do. Of course, being discontented with yourself or your situation, is generally a good place to start if change and effective action is the goal.

You've been warned.

Anyway, enjoy!

I know both authors, but my memory of anything I've read by them, is crap. I thought I'd read (or attempted) Tepper's "Grass", and it does sound familiar, but daaaang, if so, it's been ages.

I need to re-read the Hyperion novels, and the Coldfire Trilogy by Celia S. Friedman.

I find I either read strict non-fiction, or sci-fi/fantasy. Plain novels about real people usually bore me for some reason. I find that odd in myself....

They lack a moral center, conscience, and respect for themselves. I'm unsure yet if all are equally loathsome, but Kellyanne Conway is high on my list.

Out of sheer depression I went into a bakery to get a crumpet to eat while I considered today's Trumpet but the only thing I could ultimately muster was the particular sadness of lemon cake.

I'll trade you a slice of my homemade chocolate pound cake for your sad lemon cake. Depending on the particular level of sadness however. Clinical depression inducing will be a deal breaker. My chocolate pound cake is temporary-coma inducing. And who could not use at least a temporary coma at the moment, amirite?

It was a great read that expressed a lot of points I agree with but could not have articulated so clearly. I hope it gives pause to those who he identifies as part of the problem but by his his own characterization of the them it's doubtful. The idea that some things are more right than others is antithetical to some people. I try to apply the legal reasonable person test to most debates. In law it applies to negligence; however, its principles are useful when applied to many issues at the center of debates.
