Towards the wall
Towards the user

Zhuzhu's question about the way a card should face in an envelope got me wondering about this.
My apologies if it has come up before but I'm curious.

I think it should unroll towards the user.
I'll even turn one around if it is "wrong" when I encounter it in someone's house.
I imagine other people think it is rude but I do it half just for mischievous amusement.
I'm so bad.

I voted towards the user. My husband puts it on towards the wall and it drives me crazy. Have been tempted to "correct" the roll in other people''s houses, but have never actually done it, yet.

To be honest, I don't care. My husband prefers it 'toward the user,' though, so that's how I put it on.

LOL! Great poll! Funny as all get out.

My husband puts it on the WRONG WAY too...to the wall. Wonder if it''s a guy thing? I''ve never said anything though. I''m just glad he puts new rolls ON!! :)

The real downside to towards the user (or coming off the top, as I envision it) is if you have kitties. Kitties can do GREAT damage when it comes off the top. Hey Mom! Unrolling the whole roll of TP was FUN!!!

We need more input.....

OMG, why do people still debate this issue on tissue?

It is supposed to come over the top like they do it in a hotel. It shouldn't unroll every time you want to stop. Me and my daughter have this debate every time I am at her house and she has her paper towels on the roller backwards.

At work, I always have to switch it around if someone put the paper towels on wrong.

Maybe it's because I worked in a hotel for years and every janitorial worker will tell you which is the proper placement of the toilet paper or paper towel roll.

Over the top...welcoming the user.

Bizou...feel free to switch in the roll in anyone's bathroom. I always do...it's a compulsion with me.

HAHAHAHAHA! My hubby and I argue about this all the time. He''s a towards the wall guy and I''m a towards the user gal. The poll just proves that I''m right

I''m telling ya, it''s a guy thing. (At least so far....) :)

Oh man, am I weird or what? I prefer towards the user. I hate it the other way.

I'm a guy and towards the wall is a mortal sin.
Drives me nuts.

We had this discussion not too long ago. It should roll over, not under. When it rolls over it rests on itself. When it rolls under it hangs on the wall and looks sloppy.

I think it''s a flawed question on the poll. What part goes toward the wall or the user? The edge of the sheet that you grasp?

Her''s my explanation...if you can''t fold the sheet on each side of the sheet for next person to see it and grasp it easily, it''s on wrong. (Not that I would ever do that in my home. That''s just over-the-top obsessed and strictly limited to first use hotel rooms)

It''s easier to grab some when it rolls towards the user.

I only had it towards the wall when the kids were little. They would tend to spin too much and use too much with it the other way.

Heh. I hate having to peel the toilet paper from the wall if it''s placed toward the wall. Definitely should be hotel-style--toward the user.

It''s supposed to come over towards the user like a waterfall. My husband''s family does EVERYTHING backwards including toilet paper and paper towels and it drives me nuts too.

Kenny + DF questions = trying too hard

DF beat you to this question some time ago.

To heck with TP...I''ll take a bidet and a towel anyday.

Absolutely towards the user!

I''m a to-the-user kind of girl.

I have no problem, however, with people who have mischievous animals or children putting the roll on "backward" because it makes it that much more difficult for the small things with "paws" to playfully unroll the TP!

I heard this explanation once on TV: (back when TP was colored or printed) The print is only on the top side of the paper, and it should roll that way. Youngsters here will not remember TP with prints or color; it was not the ecologically correct thing to do.

I've also heard that you will use less if it isn't unrolling from the back. Don't know if it's true.

I''m not at all surprised that DF beat Kenny to the punch. It is one of those perfect Apropos of Nothing questions, after all.

There are a couple of folks here lately who are seemingly ready to usurp DF''s position of ''Post Host'' for the silly question of the day.

Haha! I''ve had discussions about this before, with friends. I''m actually surprised at how heavily weighted the results are.

HA - I''d be happy if my hub actually PUT it on the roll - in either direction!

Instead, I usually find the roll on the edge of the sink. And sometimes, just out of reach!

Towards the user, for convienience and artistic purposes.

Yes, absolutely, the toilet paper should unroll. Absolutely.

HopeDream, are those pictures of a lost art, or a new trend?

Ya know what's funny?
Ours doesn't unroll either way.

The old built in tile paper holder is built into the wall behind the toilet and is hard to reach unless you are a Yoga guru, so I just leave the roll sitting on the bathtub next to the toilet.

Well, actually, no.
We have a separate shower stall that we use.
We never use the bathtub.
