hello all,

I am new to this forum, and am looking forward to receiving some expert advice. :)

I recently visited a Birks near Toronto with my gf, and she has fallen in love with the solitaire Amorique diamond they have there (http://www.birks.com/index.asp?cFlag=products&n=1&SKU=3000045280&SecID=64&CatID=712&LangID=1). I also really like this ring, but have a feeling I can get more for my money by having a ring made elswhere that looks just like this one, but I''m not sure where to start. If I do go elsewhere, I would prefer to purchase the ring in person vs. via the Internet.

Ideally, I would like to get a 1 carat, F or G, VVS2 or VS1.

Can anyone comment on if it''s worth it going to Birks for this ring?

Any suggestions on where I could go to get a ring that looks just like this one, but at a lower price?

Thanks!

Anyone??? help!

I`ve tried this one on too and it`s lovely (beautiful!!!!) but way overpriced IMO. You are totally paying for the name.

If a cushion is what she wants (which is what the Amourique is) then I`d recommend looking here http://goodoldgold.com/diamondSearch.php do a search for cushions on this site. You can also search this site and you`ll get lots of info on cushions (with lots of mouth watering pictures). Search chunky cushions for fun.

I`m assuming you`re in Canada. Even with the exchange rate you`d be getting a better deal. Trust me, I know.

Best of luck.

Ditto. You can''t really find true top top quality stuff in Canada for a really good price. You''ll just need to get over your fears about buying on the internet

I''ve done it a couple times with Whiteflash and it was great!

www.engagementringsdirect.com is also a wonderful resource for cushions.

One more thing... you need to be sure that she would be okay with a replica. It is possible that she would really like the "real thing" and will be sad about a replica, even if it is bigger. If she fell in love with that particular ring, then maybe it is best to just get it. There are a lot of threads on here where women really wanted a Tiffany and got a replica and were not that happy. Your gal may feel the same way about the Birks. You pay for the name, sure, but if that is important to her then get her what she wants.
