So I''ve posted a lot of concerns and speculations about the purchase I''ve been waiting on. It finally came in.
Here''s the ring:
2.1 ct center stone
Color: I
Clarity: VS2
Set in 5 point eternity style band
61% table. 60% depth.
41 pavilion; 33 crown
And here''s what I''ve already learned.
1. A big stone appears smaller in a 5pt. eternity band setting. It''s harder for the eye (at least my eye) to differentiate the center stone from the band. I believe the contrast of platinum would make the size (2.1 ain''t small) of the center stone pop more. In that sense, I would have been happier with a straight platinum band.
2. "I" is beautiful. No regrets here. White as white from the top. Side view looks great.
3. Five point stones are more lighting sensitive than the center stone. Under the right lighting they sparkle like mad. Under average lighting conditions they''re rather quiet, even when the center stone is on fire. Perhaps I''ve got poorly cut five pointers, but I don''t believe that to be the case. Correct me if I''m wrong, but I assume it''s the simple physics that little stones return less light.
4. The larger table seems to make the center stone extremely bright and beautiful. Most of my concerns were unwarranted. The only problem is, at times (very specific angles), although very rare, it can appear to have that glassy table glare. Not a big deal. Just a fact.
5. Whoever said cleaning the stone is the single best thing you can do for light performance wasn''t lying. Wow. Clean your diamond!
Thanks for all the patience and help folks.
