The vote to renominate Trump will be held privately ...It will mark the first party nominating convention in modern history to be closed to reporters.

Is this as strange as I think it is? A large gathering during the pandemic isn't a good idea, obviously, but why wouldn't it just be televised instead?

(Does it possibly indicate that they plan to announce a resignation instead?)

Thoughts?

Welp, if anyone is interested... A few more articles popped up about it which I read (as well as the comments that followed) but I'm still not sure what the purpose of this unprecedented "privacy" is.

The official explanation that it's because of limits on how many people can physically attend due to coronavirus does not make sense, in my opinion, because obviously, it could simply be televised. Later articles said "parts" of it would be (but other parts would not). Hmm...

Doesn’t surprise me. His presidency continues under the veil of secrets, lies and mysteries.

MSNBC is simply stating that he does not want to have to answer any qustions about the coronavirus. I certainly don't know, but I think if he were announcing he wasn't running (which seems possible) that he would want to make a spectacle of it on television.

It seems strange to me but then he’s done a lot of unusual things (I’m trying to be polite so I’ll just say unusual). Would love to know the true purpose.

I am no political expert, but I'm thinking that who decided this would tell us a lot about what it means. If it was Trump, because he wants to control how he's presented to the public, then it seems to me just more of the usual "unusualness." But if it was the GOP's decision, then I'd guess it means the GOP possibly doesn't plan to vote Trump in as their candidate for 2020 and don't want to publicly humiliate him OR to give him an audience to stir up chaos with.

I believe that Trump currently controls the GOP.

Its a poke at the left wing media.
Cue lawsuits for access in 321....

It seems to me that's been changing rapidly lately. However, it's also possible I am under the spell of wishful thinking. :)

I don't think it is. Sure, McConnell & McCarthy had to come out and say the election would be held as usual, but they are still under Trump's thumb. The in-private nomination is very odd.

why do you say this? they can have any kind of renomination they want. you are so off line about democrats, sad.

dont have an idea to what you are saying, pls explain.

left wing media - democrats are left wing. you make zero sense, hows that 321 working for ya?

I couldn't help thinking that the Republicans might have another candidate they're considering, hence the secrecy. Trump isn't the sure thing he was a few months ago.

That is most likely just wishful thinking. I really don't see them pulling anyone out of their hat.
It's going to be Trump or Biden.

Definitely wishful thinking. My only thoughts about Trump are wishful these days: I wish he got COVID, I wish he wasn't president, I wish he'd disappear...

The logical replacement for Trump would be Pence.

Yup, too late to do it now.

That ain't gonna happen. The D party might nominate AOC...:wink2:

Is it scary to live in your brain? What is the connection -to you, that is- between Vice President Pence and Congresswoman Ocasio-Cotrtez? A Vice President might be expected to succeed a President. A Congressman usually does not.

And by the way, Representative Ocasio-Cortez is too young to be president.

Any socialist is too young to be Prez.

I would love to see you locked in a room with Bernie Sanders. You would spout nonsense and he would talk sense. He is too strong willed to be driven to distraction by your attempts to turn every logical statement into fodder for an irrelevant but provocative comment. He would.emerge from the room still sane. The only question is whether he could put a dent in your irrational thinking. I don't know if you are ineducable or simply enjoy playing at being ineducable.

Sanders wouldn't survive 10 mins in a room with me. I'll talk some sense into him... :praise:

I completely agree that Dancing Fire likes to make irrelevant but provocative comments. But, Bernie Sanders talk sense? Questionable. Being "too strong willed to be driven to distraction" can also be interpreted as "drives every topic back to what he knows instead of responding appropriately and listening to other points of view different from his." This is what I would say after I saw him on TV at the Democratic presidential nominee debates. There's things Sanders knows well, and the rest...oh boy, oh boy, does he know how to deflect just as well as Trump. But he doesn't get asked the hard questions so it's not as obvious he only minds his own agenda. Sanders is ineducable as well, in my humble opinion.

The first Q. I would ask Sanders is...where are the trillions coming from to pay for all the "freebies" you promised?

Of course he doesn't have an answer to my simple Q.
