Hello “Pricescopers,”

As a long time reader, I wanted to first thank everyone for this wonderful community. This is the only place on the Internet that I can find where a group of well-educated and helpful people has come together to form a vibrant and lively community that emphasizes support and the sharing of knowledge related to diamonds. As I read through the forum, I have gone through the traditional “Pricescope Cycle” where my parameters shifted as I became more “diamond smart.” At this point, I feel comfortable with my requirements to put it out to the community to see what they can find. As I need to have the ring ready in 7 weeks, I hope that with some effort on my part along with the great group of prosumers and experts on Pricescope I can find the “perfect for me” ring that my fiancé to be deserves. Thank you so much.

REQUIREMENTS

Price: 9,500 +/- 1000 for the loose stone
Carat: >1.45 carats
Cut: GIA XXX or AGS OOO with a good HCA score.
Clarity: Very eye-clean SI1 or solid VS1 or VS2
Color: H, I, J
Flor: On a J colored stone, I would prefer a bit of florescence, but its not req.

Of course, these are just baseline requirements. For the right stone, I understand that I would need to be flexible.

As for vendors, I prefer Eternity by Yoni; Whiteflash; James Allen Brian Gavin, but would go with any PS approved vendor. I have talked with Yoni and think he could do a great custom design for a reasonable amount of money, but would be willing to buy from someone else as all the vendors have a setting that I find desirable.

Here are some examples I have found:

1.53 J VS1 GIA XXX HCS 2.0

1.55 J VS1 GIA XXX HCS 1.4

1.52 J VS2 GIA XXX HCS 0.6

This appears to be an interesting stone. Its a 1.72J SI Excellent Cut, VG Symmetry and Polish, medium flor. It scores well on the HCA and appears very clean on the cert. Of course, would have to have the dealer examine the diamond to determine if the flor. as a neg. impact on the stone and if the stone is eye-clean, but it seems like a great value. Thoughts?

Re: The PS "Process" my "Search" and request for help.

Can you get any actual pictures of the diamond? It would worry me that it is SI1 with such small feathers noted on the plot. The comments say "surface graining not shown," so I don't know how bad that could be, or how it could affect how the stone looks.

Hmmm, the stones you linked from BG and WF are not even stones in their stock. They both specialize in the very best cut diamonds. So I recommend buying from their stock of stones they have had cut. I saw the perfect stone in BG's Blue collection, but I clicked and it is on reserve. I guess you could hope that the buyer has more than one stone on reserve and releases this one. But it would be perfect.

Not seeing any in your price range at WF or GOG. Here are a few from James Allen:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-VS2-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1457908.asp

When I look at the 77 stones on James Allen that fall within the 1.5-1.56 ct., I-J, VS2-SI1 range, ideal cut filter, it is a good reminder of why one does better to buy from a vendor that supplies magnified images of the stones. Some of them I wouldn't even consider, while others do look very nicely cut.

Re: The PS "Process" my "Search" and request for help.

Thanks for the replies. I will contact Yoni at Eternity to see if he can photograph some of my hopefuls. I saw the Brain Gavin Blue and it was indeed perfect! I will email then to see if the buyer backs out. It really does click all the boxes for me.

Re: The PS "Process" my "Search" and request for help.

Here is a candidate that Yoni identified. I would appreciate people's thoughts on the stone.

1.56 J SI1 1.7 HCA

Yoni confirmed the stone looks great in person, eye clean, performs well, etc.

The pictures are not great, but here they are.

Re: The PS "Process" my "Search" and request for help.

:appl: Nice ASET image! Looks like a good example of a well cut 60/60.

Have you seen stones with well cut 60/60 proportions vs well cut ones with smaller tables and higher crowns in person? IMO the two looks are quite different and some people have clear preferences of one over another.

Re: The PS "Process" my "Search" and request for help.

Thanks for the reply. I was sitting on my hands hoping someone would help validate my initial impressions! This is so nerve wracking.

I have seen diamonds that are 60/60 in real life and to my eye I didn't really see a difference between the 60/60 diamond and the more "modern" cut, however as this ring is not for me this is a bit of a concern.

Re: The PS "Process" my "Search" and request for help.

OK don't sweat it too much! Unless your intended recipient is really into diamonds or sensitive about color it's unlikely she'll notice the difference outright either. To my eyes diamonds with bigger tables and shallower crowns tend to look more like sparkling headlights (with more brilliance and white light return) vs sparkling disco balls (with more fire and colored light return) for diamonds with smaller tables and higher crowns. I just want to point out the difference as you seem pretty clear about what you want in your stone.
