Oh Miss Lisa I am so sorry. The strength and beauty of your Nanny’s character is shown in how much you loved her, and what a marked effect she had on you. Your family is in my prayers.

Many thanks FG, I will need it. You have been so very kind to me. Today will be a hard day. I didn''t sleep a wink, and that''s what I do best.

Nanny joked about it yesterday. She said I have slept so much, I''ve learned a lesson from you. Now I can''t sleep worth a dang. Oh well, it will catch up with me I guess. My friends are helping me with the funeral, but wanted to ask you guys, what are your favorite hymns???

Lisa, please accept my heartfelt condolences on Nanny''s passing. I know it is a great loss, but there is comfort in knowing that she went peacefully, you were there for her until the end, and she is now with her loved ones.

At my Dad''s funeral last September, we opened with "Amazing Grace" and closed with "Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee." I think it helps to make the service as much a celebration of the life of a good person like Nanny as a time to mourn her loss.

Take care.

This is my fathers world was played at my mom''s funeral it still is bitter/sweet to hear it to this day.
It was her favorite.
It was a reminder of who is really in charge and who to turn too.
I think its a great one.
Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me, is another of my favorites that suitable.

Morning Has Broken -- not written by Cat Stevens, as some believe. Lyrics based on Psalm 118 I think? Have heard this played at funerals before and it''s very moving, and uplifting.

Dear Lisa,

My first thought on waking this morning was of you! From your last post, it sounds like you''re doing OK. And that note with the gin!!!! LOL...how wonderful!!

I was thinking this morning about your Granny, and how blessed she was pass on peacefully, with her ''buttons'' and feisty spirit in tact, and not alone. She had someone who truly truly loved her to see her off.

We should all be so blessed.

Take care,
Janis

Lisa, do you know what Nanny's favorite hymn was? If so, maybe you will include it in the service?

Here are ones already offered, along with a few others.

How Great Thou Art http://rosemck1.tripod.com/hgta.html
Amazing grace http://www.oremus.org/hymnal/a/a251.html
Joyful, joyful we adore thee http://www.oremus.org/hymnal/j/j251.html
This is my father’s world http://www.oremus.org/hymnal/t/t538.html
Rock of ages http://www.oremus.org/hymnal/r/r082.html
Morning has broken http://www.weddingguide.co.uk/articles/wordsmusic/hymns/Hymn-MorningHasBroken.asp#MorningHasBroken
(if you play the midi there is a strange intro but it moves into the proper hymn)
A mighty fortress is our God http://www.oremus.org/hymnal/a/a032.html
Swing low, sweet chariot http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/s/w/swinglow.htm
Shall we gather at the river http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/s/w/swgatriv.htm
We’ll never say goodbye http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/w/n/wnsgobye.htm

This one is known as the ‘Funeral Hymn’ and while not so common, I think the text is beautiful.

Lord, it belongs not to my care http://www.oremus.org/hymnal/l/l320.html
(Funeral Hymn)

‘On Eagles Wings’ is a more modern but many people know it. It can be found here along with a list of others (including 'Abide With Me') http://www.tc.umn.edu/~sorem002/hymn_midi.html

There are many others out there. I know whatever you all decide to celebrate her life in song will be perfect.

I am sorry to be late, Lisa, but I was out of town (coincidentally for a funeral). The 23rd psalm was recited during it, so when I saw that Storm had posted it for your grandmother, I felt it was very a propos.

Please accept my condolences on the death of your grandmother. Any loss of a loved one is hard and I know she meant the world to you. I will hold you in the light.

One of my favorite hymns is, "I Come to the Garden Alone", but I have many others. There is a great deal of very beautiful sacred music. Some people have said that only God, of the idea of Him, could inspire the beauty of the music written in praise of Him. I often feel that way.

I started my posting at around 7:00 am and had to leave it on the computer since it was unfinished. I see, now, that other people have given you the names of lovely hymns (especially John Q, of course!).

I will, therefore, add another of my favorites to the list, "Down by the Riverside".
