How do you know a piece of jewelry is "the one"?

That''s hard...I don''t know if anything is ever "the one" for me because I go through phases you know? I might LOVE something for a few years and then my style will evolve and it isn''t quite me anymore.

If I am searching for something though, I know I''ve found it if I don''t buy it, and then a day or two later am still daydreaming about it and scheming when I can go back and get it!

This is exactly how I am, too! I''m the same way with clothes, shoes, bags, etc.

Me too. If I love something and I am not 100% sure I should buy it, I put it on hold. And either I forget about it later, and then know I don''t really need it, or I can''t stop thinking about it!

I don''t. I always tell DH only to get bored of something a few months later. I don''t trust myself to buy a piece of jewellery any longer.

Because it makes your heart sing at the sight of it, and you just really don''t care what the color grade is! (for about 2 minutes anyway..)

I'm not the type of girl who gets "stuck" on any one thing, especially if that thing is expensive! I tend to be extremely economical and getting emotionally attached to something does not help me to stay financially objective.

That being said, I knew I was head over heels for my e-ring when:

1. I saw it for the first time (I was with a friend) I said "This is exactly what I want--I will have this ring, even if I just pay for it myself"
2. I went to see it so often that all the sales people knew me by name and had named it "Nicole's ring"
3. I decided that the price of the ring was more expensive than what I was comfortable having DH spend and worked with 3 local jewellers to try to recreate the ring at a lower cost
4. When DH bought the ring and drove out to my parents' house in Kansas City to propose to me (changed his mind--long story). Anyway, because he'd been driving 26 hours straight, he conked out and I told him to take a nap before hitting the road back to Boston. While he was asleep I took the ring from his coat and carefully unwrapped it, then showed it to my mom and said "I just want you to see how beautiful this ring is since neither of us will ever see it again." Then wrapped it back up and put it back in his coat where it stayed for many months.

Luckily I haven't fallen in love with any other rings!

For me, it''s when I decide I''ve seen literally everything else there is to see and I still favor the one I''ve been leaning toward. I did this with my e-ring, my w-band, my wedding dress, and every important purchasing decision I''ve made. When you''re at the point where you can say "everything else is pretty, nice, etc, but it isn''t MINE like that one is..." then it''s the one :)

my FI and i found my e-ring at a jeweler in NJ.. a few months later i moved out of state and he and i both traveled to 3 states looking for a similar ring. every single ring that i tried on we literally said "its nothing like the jersey ring". this is how we knew. everything was compared to---and lost to the ''jersey'' ring. now the jersey ring is on my finger and i have a hard time taking it off to sleep!

While standing in the middle of Tiffany''s in NYC (after traveling many a mile on vacation), I looked down expecting to be slightly disapointed in my non-Tiffany stone in my non-Tiffany ring, and instead gasped thinking how much BETTER mine looked than what was around me! I knew then I had really found "the one."

Ditto!

Also important is the "Oh!" Reaction.
