Hi, just thought I would share this out of interest to my fellow diamond lovers here.

As I am now in the process of getting my princess reset, I am coming into contact with many lovely and interesting local vendors.

So anyway, I was explaining about my diamond and its not so good cut because I like to let the `experts` know that I know about these things!!!!!

Anyway, the lady I was dealing with was quite kind and seemed genuine when she said that it was still a very lovely stone and that it performed quite well even without light.

She could see that I wasnt convinced and she said....look at this ....I will show you. So she got out a white envelope and held it up to the light whilst holding it open towards me. She then put my ring inside and said that this is how it looks in white light.

And, believe it or not, my diamond did look very white sparkly and pretty!!!!!

I just thought that this was a good trick for making diamonds perform really well!!!!!

Anyway, I am having fun with this reset and have narrowed it down quite a bit now. I am going minimal with very dainty diamond bands, no halo, and the diamond will look almost naked in this setting!!!!! This diamond is really getting a new look for sure.

It seems like you are saying the ring was inside the white envelope and all the light was coming thru the paper - so the diamond was in an entirely white enviornment?

if so an uncut diamond would also look very bright

Yes, I gathered that it was an excercise to make a diamond look its best.

Is that really helpful though? I mean in real life you''ll never see your diamond that way...I''d rather have one that performs well OUTSIDE of an envelope!

Well, the designer seemed to think it was helpful....

Fwiw, I do get many genuine compliments on my ring so I suppose it must perform or why would people comment all the time? And that includes people at the jewellery show I went to. Im being honest that it does get a lot of attension irl. Maybe people here are easily impressed???

In any case, it`s the diamond I have and its the one Im working with at the moment for better or for worse!!!!

hehe, sounds like another sales trick to make stones look white and beautiful. From all the complimanets it sounds like you have a beautiful stone, but I can''t see how an envelope wouldnt make a stone look whiter as it is white and the diamond will pic up the reflections and white colour of the envelop...

It sounds like a useful trick to work with a diamond from time to time. What makes me happy is that the salesperson was complimentary and not negative. We hear so many stories about knocking the competition that your story is refreshing.

Thanks oldminer! Maybe its a special trick to make somebody feel better??? LOL

Maybe for others reading I didnt explain it properly, but it was something she did as an excercise at the end of our design meeting. She did it in response to me saying I didnt think my diamond was cut well. She also just held it in the open air and still said it was very pretty, but the setting was dragging it down.

I must admit that sofar in my resetting endevours I have met some really really nice vendors. I would love to do business with them all & it will be hard to choose in the end. But you are right about the impact of sales people being not negative .....it made me feel much better about my stone and the potensial of a new setting.
