Peony, my first chart off of hbc was just as erratic. It should get better with time, I think.

I''ve had what feels like ovulatory pain all day, but my cp and cm aren''t changing like they normally do. My body''s just felt off this cycle, which is frustrating because I had some really good cycles with classic signs before we started TTC. I''ll just have to see where tomorrow''s temp is.
 
Oooooh, Mela. My dear. I''m so sorry. I''m glad my story about whizzing on my foot gave you a small smile. I was also wearing some croc flip flops at home and somehow the toe part flipped under and I totally fell on my face. That''ll teach me to wear crocs, right?

Hi DD! Yeah, it's the former (I've been off BC for less than a month). Thanks for your encouraging words! I'm using a basal thermometer and it seems to be pretty accurate because sometimes I temp twice in a row just to make sure, and it's pretty much never more than .1 away. I guess that I'll just have to keep plugging along!

And Mela, I'm realllly sorry about your miscarriage. *Hugs*

Hi Peony and everyone else,

Jerkstore is a term of endearment originally uttered by Mela Lu in a post a thousand pages back (I just spent the past 1/2 hr. looking).

She used it in a very funny way about herself and it stuck - at least w/ me.

If I remember it had something to do w/ NJ and her sister but I'm on all these hormones now so who knows what's going on upstairs.

If you get preggo and just sort of pop in to drop the "BFP" bomb then this is you!!!!

Mela - I''m so sorry for your loss. For what it is worth, my friend''s first pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage and had a lovely baby boy about 10 months later! That may be cold comfort right now...but thought I''d share.

DD - yep - Another dog lover here. We have two, and you''ve inspired me to find a pic with both of them in it for my avatar.

Speaking of dogs, my crazy Ibizan is currently laying his head across my keyboard and crying, which is very subtle Izzie speak for "I want to go to bed, NOW." He won''t walk up the stairs himself (he is quite quirky)... and the harassment will only get work until we finally give in...so off to bed we go!

yup lisa - you pretty much nailed it there! My best friend and her sibs invented ''jerkstore'' as a funny/non-offensive way to tell each other off, and i referred to myself as a jerkstore for popping into this thread on my first cycle TTC and PAAM! preggo. alas, this pregnancy was not meant to be, but I''m so happy to back here with such a great lot o'' ladies.

Thanks for your outpouring of support. honestly, the numbers of m/c are sad and scary, but in a way, we''ve taken comfort in knowing that it is just a part of life. it''s mother nature''s way of weeding out the viable from the non; and I''m happy that we all (baby, myself and DH) were able to end it in a way that was not too involved and early on rather than later.

We''ll be trying again as soon as we get the green light!

Who knows, maybe i''ll get to be a jerkstore again!

There are so many inspiring stories about women who get preggers right away. in fact, my aunt had an early m/c at 3 months (the baby girl, Amelia, stayed alive for about 24 hours but wasnt old enough to survive). Anyhoo, my aunt got pregnant again 2 months later - with twin boys!!! They were born 3 months premature, but are now healthy and thriving 21 year olds!!!!

You seem to be doing well considering the circumstances. My boss also had a miscarriage at 3 months back in September..actually I think it was 3 1/2 months. Anyway, in January she tried again and she's now 6 months preggos! Plus, at least you know you can get pregnant and in my book, that's huge! Hang in there hun and come here for support whenever you need it!

Mela, you are an inspiration. It is great that you are able to keep such a good sense of perspective. In my (limited) experience, it seems to hit different women differently. My friend T was just like you ''Well, it wasn''t meant to be. We''ll try again!'' Which isn''t to say that she wasn''t very sad and disappointed, but she also saw it as a normal part of nature, a common aspect of reproduction. For others it''s completely devastating and takes years to get over. In this, as with so many things, it''s important for each woman to be able to feel what she feels, and to get the kind of support she needs for her own style of grieving and coping.

I hope our cub sticks around, but if it doesn''t, I am going to try to think about it the way you do: nature does what nature does. It''s like getting sick or getting old. While of course it can be hard and sad and difficult, there''s no point saying ''Why me!'' because that''s just nature and that''s just life, even when it IS sad and difficult.

Lots of hugs, honey. I hope you''re a jerkstore again in no time!
 
Hey gals! At this point do you think it would be worth using my OPK, or should I just try next cycle? They''re not that expensive, but it seems somewhat likely that I won''t ovulate this month, so I''m thinking of just tracking my other signs.
 
Peony, I would wait until next month, if cost is a concern. Do I remember that you said you just came off BCP?
 
Mela-I am a *little* concerned about how Max will respond when we do have a baby. he behaves just fine around babies, but the attention thing and some jealousy is a concern. He is very attached to me, I sometimes refer to him as velcro dog! So, it will be interesting.

Peonygirl- I don''t remember what cycle day you are on. I didn''t use opk''s until about 3 months off bcp. IF cost is an issue then I would probably wait till next cycle, but if you bought the cheaper strips then you wouldn''t really be wasting much.

So, we go on vacation in 2 days and I''m sick

I have no idea what is wrong with me. I am achy and I keep spiking temperatures, I get really cold (shivering) then the temperature goes back to normal. It''s really strange. I have no other symptoms. Yesterday it happened twice. My temp went up to 102, I was super cold (wrapped in my robe, 2 blankets and its 80 degrees outside and the ac is not on in my house!) Then after about an hour of that i get really hot, and about an hour later my temp is back to 98. I''m getting ready to call my doctor, but right now I don''t have a temperature so she''ll probably think I"m crazy.
 
Tiff, sounds like you have a cold or flu! Take tylenol or aspirin or something to bring the fever down. A lot of the ''pleuh'' feeling will go away when your fever is gone.

No need to call the doctor I would say, unless your fever stays really high even with the tylenol. Just, y''know, drink lots of fluids and rest!

Bummer about the holiday though.

BTW, speaking of dogs and babies, this big floofy dude belongs to my parents. They had some guests come stay with them who had a 6 week old infant and Puppins here was pretty ticked off at the competition, so he went into the garbage, dug out all the poo-ey diapers, rolled in it, and spread it all over my mom''s Persians.

Wow, what a fast moving thread! Nothing much here, temps are going down in anticipation of AF. I LEFT MY RINGS AT HOME! DH and I carpool, and today we were rushed. I didn''t notice until I got in, and now I''m all bummed.

Tiffany, sounds like you''ve got the flu! Eeek! Vitamin C, baby! We''re leaving in 9 days. Must get the house hoovered so Dad can hang out if he wants (he lives down the street and will have Woofie the whole time, but his house is being constructed, so he has no shower, and he''ll use ours). I''m starving. AND MY HAND IS NAKED!
 
I''ve got vitamin c and lots of water. I don''t have a fever right now but I''m worried it will come back. I did notice that I have some lower back pain, which I thought was just sore from working 16 hours Tuesday, but I''m wondering if it could be a kidney infection.

Amber- sorry your hands are naked! I have forgotten mine a few times in my rush out the door. My hubby forgot his once and drove home to get it! I thought that was sweet.

IG- What a cute dog! He must have really felt threatened! I''m sure it wasn''t funny to your parents, but from an outsiders perspective it''s a fairly entertaining story!
 
Peony: if/when you ovulate this month you will see it in your temps anyways, so if cost or annoyance is an issue, then you probably don''t need to bother with the OPKs until you are actually TTC. They only tell you that O-day is approaching anyways (by measuring the rise in leutenizing hormone), they can''t confirm ovulatio the ways a temp shift can.

mela : you are a shining light my dear... you are right, it wasn''t meant to be this time but I''m sure it will happen for you again very soon. As Blushing pointed out, you know you can get preggers and that is MORE than half the battle! As for dogs, I think ours will be fine... maybe... I think that they know we are the bosses in the house and so when we bring home the baby they will hopefully listen to us and treat the baby as another house boss. They like smelly things in general, so that alone should endear the baby to them.
 
My mind cycles through many thoughts re TTC and today it hit m/c.

Mela you sound so informed and realistic! Not that it isn't a blow but, really, you've got some fierce perspective.

I had a chem. preg. 1 cycle ago and it was my first detectable one b/c I actually had bw to prove it (meaning I've
probably had others but chalked it up to a late AF).

I even posted my faint, faint pink lines on here. However, the beta (qualitative bw) was interesting and I held my
breath for several days only to see AF a couple days late.

I cried. I felt disappointed. But also kinda relieved b/c I know that most m/c are chromosomal errors and most embryos
that m/c are incompatible w/ life anyway.

How does one stay "cautiously optimistic" throughout the pregnancy?

I didn't feel comfortable until Olivia was 24 weeks (considered age of viability - but trust me u don't want to deliver then).

I guess this is all training for the uncertainties of having a child in the first place. You never totally let you guard down
even after they are born. There are endless things to worry about.

This is turning into a babble now......

What would be a fantastic distraction from the whole thing (TTC and staying preggo) while you are in the midst of it??????
 
Tiffany, It could be a kidney infection. I had so many bladder infections, and when one turned into a kidney infection I nearly died. Okay, not really, but it was seriously terrible. We had to go to a concert, a standing only concert and OH MY GOD it was bad. Get better soon!

It''s so good for me to hear you talking about this in terms of the bigger picture. Right now we''re having a hard time thinking much of anything about this baby (the size of a poppyseed, apparently). I keep prefacing everything by saying, "well, if it sticks...." probably because I''m lowering my expectations. But, it''s true, things work out for a reason, and if it happens to me, hopefully I''ll be able to learn from your positive thoughts.

Part of the reason I haven''t told my parents yet is because they''ll tell everyone they know. And I''m somehow convinced that all their Korean friends at church will tsk tsk and blame me if I do miscarry.

Well, there''s always my dissertation, which is the distraction that trumps all. I need to have a few chapters written before this baby comes, so I''ll probably frequent PS less often in the coming months.

The Pregnant PSer thread goes way too fast for me. I think I''m going to stick it out here and keep rooting for everyone else.
 
Hi Everyone- I have been in major lurker mode these past couple of weeks, but keeping up on posts of course.
I wanted to say to Mela so sorry for your loss. I am glad you can have such an amazing attitude about things- I think positivity really helps things.

And then I need to also say Congrats to the other ladies- I''m not sure I will even remember as there seems to be an avalanche of bfps right now- DD, Indy, Erica!!!! Wow what a run. Here''s some sticky vibes for you all.

Lisa- yea for three follicles!!! That is so exciting. I can''t believe all that is involved and you make it sound so easy. Im pulling for you!!!

Indy- I can''t believe your dog(parents) rolled in the dirty diapers...Makes me a little nervous for my dogs interactions with baby. We had company this weekend and there was a toddler(maybe 18 mos) who hit the dog a few times and it seemed like she took it all in stride. I was impressed. Hopefully that is a good sign.

Tiffany- I hope you feel better- can you dip your urine at work and check it out? Take good care of yourself!!!

Amber- hang in there I know you are frustrated. I think we are a group of very informed ppl who watch every sign/symptom etc- it makes it hard sometimes.

Amber- hang in there! I hate having everyone IRL saying things like "you''ll see" or simply dismissing my knowledge because I am not preggo yet.

We don''t want to tell anyone we are TTC, but with so many people around me becoming preggo and having babies they are of course posing the q''s to us. I smile and say "soon enough." But really I feel like we''ll be old news by the time we get pregnant. I know that doesn''t really matter, but still, I used to be SO excited about other peoples babies, now I just long for my own. You know?

Also, what OPK tests do you ladies use/suggest? I have only charted one cycle, so I feel like going off temps alone isn''t enough for me, I would like to do an OPK too.

Happy - I use the Answer test strips. They seem to work well for me. I have a pack of the clear blue easy digital tests and I''ve used those sometimes to confirm ovulation in case I''m having trouble reading my Answer strip (which has only happened twice). Regardless, they both work great for me, but you get 30 Answer strips compared to the CBE''s...and the best part is they''re like 20 bucks cheaper.
 
I just have whatever the sticks are from pregnancy-tests.com or something like that. Early pregnancy tests.com? They work really well for me!

Amber - I HATE when I forget to put my rings on. It just feels sooooo weird...and I''m constantly sort of startled by the fact that they aren''t there. Also, I miss the lovely sparklies! And you are going to Kauai soon, right? DH and I went there for our honeymoon in September of last year...so if you are looking for any pointers or things to do, I''d be happy to share. It is my favorite place on earth (well, that I''ve seen so far). We absolutely loved it.

Indy - My friend told me about her puppy who found a particularly disgusting dirty diaper and enjoyed herself a little baby truffle feast.

YUCK! My friend almost puked when she was telling me the story - yuck. yuck. yuck.

Tiffany - I''m sorry you''re feeling crummy. DH got hit with a WICKED flu a few months back...with similar sounding symptoms. It is any consolation, it was gone in about 36 hours. He was a bit wiped out from the fever, but he was otherwise okay.

Lisa - the idea of being cautiously optimistic is tough...I''m SUCH a worrier and a bit obsessive...so pregnancy is probably going to be a bit rough from that perspective. And I''m not so good at distracting myself...like I said I tend to obsess and worry...UGH.

As for how the dogs will be with a future baby...my little black dog (I''ve attached a pic of her below) is a bit afraid of kids because she had a bad experience with one last year. A toddler was super rough with her...we stopped it as soon as we could, but I think the damage was done. That having been said, I''m not too concerned, because both of our dogs are super sweet and don''t get jealous of one another...so I think we''ll be alright. Both of our dogs are SUPER spoiled though...and I really really really want to be sure that we don''t become people who make the pups second class citizens after a baby comes along...

Without further ado, here is a picture of our other dog, Cricket. She''s a little muttski that we got at a rescue. We picked her because she looked SO much like Izzie. We call her our knock off Ibizan.

LittleLysser I loooove your dog! She is amazing, so beautiful! She looks like she might have a little dachshund or other type of hound in her. Love that face!
