DD''s old thread is no longer open for posting and since we have a whole jerkbarn of us newly preggos I thought I''d create a new one so that we have someplace where we can post while we''re still feeling like we''re in limbo.

So, new jerkstores, did you immediately stop temping once you got your bfp? I haven''t stopped testing, but I have stopped temping. I''ve heard that your temp can do some crazy things so it''s not worth it.

Anyone buy any pregnancy books yet? I want to, but at the same time I feel like I''m just not ready. Anyone have any good recs for when I am? I think I need to get DH one too. Yesterday after we''d made up from our fight I said something about my boobs being bigger and he said "Has the cooch gotten any bigger yet?" I was like, "Uh...to my knowledge, it doesn''t get any bigger until you''re in labor..." You should''ve seen his face when he then asked "How is a baby going to come out of there then?!" Hahaha. For someone whose siblings have 9 kids, he sure knows nothing about pregnancy.

Thanks for starting this Robbie!

I stopped temping straightaway - apparently there''s no point - but, I did test everyday just to watch the line get darker...

I bought ''What to Expect'' and "Your Pregnancy Bible: The Experts'' Guide to the Nine Months of Pregnancy and the First Weeks of Parenthood". They were both a bit basic for my taste.

I like the Mayo Clinic''s on-line site and there are a few others that tell you day by day what is happening which is fun.

Woohoo congratulations Robbie! I saw it the other day but forgot to post! Here''s hoping for a sticky

Hey gals, hope you don''t mind a not-barely preggo popping in! LOL!

Temping: I temped until 18 DPO. I don''t know why, I just thought that was sort of a safe limit in terms of chemical pregnancy? That''s also when we told my mom and then we told his parents about 10 days later. I just felt that 18DPO was a "hurdle" to get past. Then I put the thermometer away. Still POAS though
3.gif
I think the last time I POAS was 44 DPO! haha...

Books: I have also found them all to be too basic, I wouldn''t waste money. I got the "Our Bodies Ourselves" Preggo book and "Your Preganancy Week to Week". Found neither to be all that helpful and found the second to be a little fear-mongering for my taste. I like websites better: babycenter.com, whattoextect.com. All the same info and its free!

I just posted in the main pregnancy thread and this thread just confirms what I said in the other! That I''m not familiar with the terms and acronyms at all!!

Is temping taking your temperature everyday?

What in the world is DPO? And POAS?

Yup. "Days Past Ovulation" "Pee on a Stick" = doing a home pregnancy test. On page 4 of the TTC thread there is list of acornyms that may help!

Thanks for the congrats, Bee!

DD, all are welcome in barely preggo land!

I was just reading up about 1st appointments and it seems like I need to know my family history. I''m thinking I need to tell my mom before that appointment so I can find out what all her miscarriages were about. Perhaps if I put it to DH like that he''ll be ok with telling her before the appointment.

My bloat has gone from pretty much non-existant to super mega bloat. I''m wearing my biggest capris today and they fit really well. There''s a little room in the waist, but not much. These things used to fall off of me. I''m sure part of it is that I''ve been slowly gaining weight this summer, but it''s mostly bloat. I think I may need to invest in a bella band soon since most of my pants are a size smaller than these. I''m going to Target tonight with a friend to try to get some looser tops. Most of my work tops are somewhat fitted which is making me nervous that someone''s going to notice.

For those of you not saying anything until the first appointment or after the first trimester, will you lie if someone flat out asks you before you''re ready to tell?

robbie
There are mix reviews concerning the What to Expect when you are Expecting book.
I personally think it is ok.

Anyway, there are tons of info that you can read off the internet.
Some of the sites I used to read are:
babycenter.com (best one)
whattoexpect.com
www.womenshealthcaretopics.com

I wouldn't advertised my pregnancy during the first trimester, but I wouldn't lie if someone ask me about it.
I would tell them but asked them to keep quiet about it.

I stopped temping at 3 dpo because I was going crazy trying to figure out if I had an implantation dip or a triphasic chart on previous cycles. I did keep testing every few days though, because it was fun watching the line get darker and what else am I going to do with the extra tests I had lying around?

Robbie, I got incredibly bloated at 8 dpo and it hasn''t gone down yet. Surprisingly, nobody''s said anything to me without me saying something first. I haven''t really planned on lying, but maybe saying something like "What, do I look pregnant? I know I''ve gained a couple pounds, but dang. I guess I need to start going to the gym more seriously again." Not really a lie (since it doesn''t even answer the question) but it might make them realize that asking if you''re pregnant based on a couple of extra pounds is pretty rude.

Right now, I''m really enjoying reading Spiritual Midwifery (Ina May Gaskin). It doesn''t really go into development at each stage though, just basic overall things and a lot of birth stories. Panic Free Pregnancy is also a good book. Other than that, I haven''t been particularly impressed - most books are either too unhelpful or too fear-mongering. In general, I''d recommend checking out the library to test books before buying them. I also got a bunch of Fit Pregnancy magazines from the library, which I''m enjoying reading. And they feature models in every stage of pregnancy (including barely bloated), which makes me feel like less of a fraud reading them.

I''m off now to try out the suggested websites...

Oh yeah, and regarding the "cooch" - blood flow increases during pregnancy, which does make things a little more engorged. But it doesn''t sound like that''s what your DH is talking about.

I''ve found "The Expectant Father" to be the best of all of the expecting daddy books that my mom gave us.

Robbie- Did you tell your friends yesterday? If so, how?

Hope all the newly preggos are well!

Am, there was a change in plans and I''m having dinner with one tonight and the other tomorrow. We won''t all be together until Sunday, but then we''ll be at the one''s parents'' house and I don''t want to tell them there since his parents can''t know yet since our dads are friends and my parents won''t know until after the first appointment next month.

I still can''t decide how to tell them and now that it looks like I''ll tell them individually, I''ll probably just blurt it out.

Robbie you are pregnant???? Whoo hoo, Congratulations sweetheart!!!

Linda

Thanks, Linda! I just got my bfp on Tuesday :)

robbie, re your question about what to do if someone just out and asks you, i only had one person be bold enough to flat out ask .. and yes, she is usually inappropriate.
20.gif
what i told her was ''don''t worry, i promise i''ll tell you when i have news to share.'' that''s not a lie. when you have news to share, you will tell them. until the news is shareable, you won''t.
2.gif

Ooh, good response! Thanks, Indy! Now that I have something prepared I think I''ll be ok. We just decided that we''re going to tell our parents before the first appointment so that we can get any relevant medical info to take with us.

robbie ..very cool that you started this thread! because i am totally in limbo as to where i am so far lol...as some many know i did my beta pg test on mondat and it was 435 and the hpts that morning were dark and positive,...but they scheduled my 2nd pg blood test this coming monday so i am going insane because i dont have any signs of being preggers (as you do robbie ) and we are both 5 weeks along...only thing i have is tighntess in the stomach (anyone had this or know if this is normal??) so i did another hpt tonite and it was positive but not as dark....could it be bc it was done in evening vs am??? or is this not a good thing? im such a worrier you have no idea! lol...at this point i would welcome morning sickness with open arms just to feel like its real! the wait is killing me...plz help,.(sorry for you who are reading this duplicate post ..i posted on 3 threads before finding this one!)

Hey NYC, I actually don''t have any symptoms other than spotting and veiny largery boobs. I''m actually a week behind you at 4 weeks and 2 days. I wouldn''t worry much about 1 test being lighter. The first test could''ve had more dye than normal or the second could have had less than normal. It could also be because you tested at night. I''d be worried if you did a bunch over a few days and they all showed the line getting progressively lighter. The line I''ve been getting on the $tree tests is super light still even though I finally got a bfp on a digi this morning.

Friend 1 came over for dinner last night and we told him. He''s really happy and excited. I ended up just kind of working it into the convo. He was complaining about how his parents allow his younger sister''s gf to sleep over in her bed when they wouldn''t allow him and his wife to sleep in the same room even when they were engaged. I said it''s probably since they realize it''s not like she''s going to get pregnant. He said something like "I can''t get pregnant! I''m a guy!" So I said, "Yeah, I can''t get pregnant either because I''m already pregnant..." The whole convo was happening while I was serving dinner. He was like, wait, what? Really? Hahaha. It was pretty funny. We decided last night that we were going to tell our parents after we got our bfp on the digi. Well, we managed to get that this morning (apparently these hormones are able to make me super tired, but give me insomnia after I''ve slept for only a few hours. I woke up at 2) so we''re planning to tell them today! We''re nervous, but I''m sure both sets of parents will be really excited. This is the first grandchild on my side (I''m even the first out of my cousins to have kids) and it will be the 10th on DH''s, but the first biological grandchild to DH''s dad. DH''s older 3 siblings are half siblings, so this will be the first to have a chance of looking like DH''s dad. Agh! I''m nervous!

Congratulations Robbie and Pandora!

Oooh, have fun telling the ''rents and let us know what they say!

DH sent his parents and brothers and email yesterday (without telling me) saying:

1+1=3 - if you work it out, call Pandora at home....

So I got loads of confused phonecalls!

I had a great chat with his mother - who had FOUR boys. She wanted to know what I was giving up eating and what kind of birth I wanted - and was really pleased when I told her I was planning to eat what I felt like and you could stick natural birth - I want pain-free thanks so get that epidural in place asap!

Turns out she did exactly the same.

His father (they''re divorced and both have remarried) on the other hand is going to need ''expectation management''. He''s cancelling his holiday so that they can be here for the birth

, and then he said how nice it will be to have a grandchild that they will be able to see all the time...

Er, I was think more like 3/4 times a year.

They live a good 3-4 hour drive from us - and there is no way I or my SIL would let a baby stay in their house (we are talking inches of dust everywhere). I won''t even stay there as it makes me feel wheezy. FIL''s wife is a complete nutter as well (we''re talking sectioning here not mildly eccentric). Our house only has 2 bedrooms so they can''t stay either.

congrats to everyone!

Robbie, There are alot of very good specialists in town (if you need them, I hope not !). Did they close the maternity center in Boardman?

Pandora, what a cute way to tell! We ended up telling both sets of parents with a card. The one for my parents was a Halloween card. I told my mom we needed to come over to look at a bookcase in my old room to see if we wanted it (she''s been trying to get me to take it for months) and when I walked in I told her that the drugstore down the street was having a huge sale on greeting cards, 20 for $1! Then I told her I picked one up for her. It took her a little while, but she eventually saw that we''d signed the card Robin, Tom, Katana, Zashi (our cats) and Baby. She was really excited, but then claimed that she already knew. She always does that. When I first told her DH and I were dating she claimed to have known for weeks. Too bad we hadn''t been dating for weeks yet, lol.
20.gif
When my dad came home she handed it to him and he didn''t notice. So my mom told him to look at who signed it and he said, ok, the cats signed it, so what? She told him to look again and he finally got it. They''re really excited, but think they''re too young to be grandparents. Uh, hello, parents, you''re over 60! How old did you want to be??? Seems like a pretty good age to become grandparents to me! At this point they still have a chance of making it to graduations and a wedding. My grandparents had all passed away before I graduated high school.

Neither of DHs parents noticed the "& baby" on the card. They had to read it a bunch of times before they saw. They were surprised, but really happy. I love my in-laws, but FIL always has something negative to say about everything. He said something along the lines of "you couldn''t wait a little longer?" After hearing comments like this throughout the wedding planning and home buying process they don''t really bother me anymore. Right after saying that, he asked me if I wanted anything to drink and jumped off of the couch to get me a glass of water. I am carrying his first biological grandchild after all
3.gif
.

DH''s siblings don''t know yet and we''re going to wait until his younger sister is back for a visit to tell them. She just moved to FL last month and we really want to tell her in person. She''ll be back in town the week after our first appointment, so it actually works out really well. Now I just have to keep my mouth shut until then. I really suck at keeping secrets and people keep making comments that are perfect openings for telling them! One of my SILs saw me looking at a baby the other day and said "back away from the baby! You''ve got all the time in the world!" I wanted to say something like, "well, actually, we''ve only got about 8 months..." Ha.

Daydreamer, DH and I actually moved to Pittsburgh in March, so I''m pretty excited that I get to deliver at the same hospital I was born in
1.gif

I forgot to mention that MIL already started talking baby shower. She''s a planner (been working on xmas presents for at least a month now) and she''ll probably have a date picked out by next week, LOL.

Hey girls! Soooooo not pregnant over here but I am reading TCOYF and using it to prevent a BFP. How long did you do this Robbie?

Congrats to you all and wishing you the best.

Iwanna, I stopped my bc in October and we were preventing until sometime this summer (can''t remember exactly when). We didn''t start really trying until August though.

Well, THERE YOU ALL ARE GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
37.gif
It took me a while, but my hyper-sensitive sense of smell sniffed out your pregnant hormones!
HA. can''t fool me!
9.gif

I kept temping until the day AFF was due, then I stopped.

Robbie - cute story about the greeting card! I got a wee weepy reading that! (surprise surprise
28.gif
) The first time I got knocked up we were so excited and went over to both parents houses to share the news. The second time, we were so relaxed about it, and just picked up the phone. "uh, hey mom! what''s up? uh huh, uh huh. oh by the way...my intuition was right. I''m knocked up. Yah, thanks. Okay yah, we''ll get excited in 2 months....sounds good."
LOL

so what else can we talk about here? Bloating. checkitty check check. I bought the bella band to cover up my undone pants. It''s insane how puffy I am! None of my pants do up. I''m 5 weeks, 2 days! WTF?! I weighed myself this morning and I''ve *only* gained 3 lbs total since the last pregnancy. not bad. not bad. 3 lbs doesn''t sound like a lot, but on 5''1" frame, it adds up. Adds to the point where I can''t do up mt pants. humph.

what else?

Hey Iwanna, there is a great companion website for TCOYF www.ovusoft.com with message boards full of super expert charters, and there is a board for TTA (avoid)... thought I''d mention it since I found it to be a great resource when TTC and I think it can be useful to have an expert panel to ask questions when learning to TTA.. I plan to use FAM to avoid when I am no longer preggo too, I love the method a lot. Those people know charting like we all know diamonds
