True, DF, true. But WHATEVER you do, DO NOT EVER accuse a Paint person of owning a QH . . . they will seriously GO OFF on you!!! LOL!Date: 4/13/2010 11:45:59 PM

Right or appy
Because you know, a solid/breeding stock paint or a solid/breeding stock appy is still a paint/appy![]()

That''s like saying a dun is still a palomino because it can have a palomino baby. And don''t get me started on Sabinos

Irish - I think the breeding stock thing is ridiculous. TECHNICALLY any quarter horse could be breeding stock then.... as they are solid... and can produce paints.
Silly
Samantha - Welcome aboard!!!! It sounds like you have a real passion! It is rare, and it is wonderful. I can''t wait to see pictures! Have you thought about buying and simply making payments?
I don't run in Western circles and have *never* understood this thinking. I'm glad I'm not alone on that! But then I'm used to horses just being "warmbloods" without anyone caring whether they're Dutch, or Hanoverian, or whatever (or if they're half TB even!).Date: 4/14/2010 4:24:25 PM

El, I don''t run in Western circles either! In fact, my friend with the "breeding stock paint, NOT Quarter Horse" is something of a dressage queen, if you can believe it! LOL! Takes all kinds!Date: 4/15/2010 9:18:40 AM

Ok, so Otto is clearly a paint. Not sure what my other bun is - she''s bigger than him, but also ''pinto'' colored. Maybe we can call her a percheron, since she''s light grey and white. She''s also stocky all around while Otto just has a big bum![]()
El, I believe she is a Percheron/Paint cross!Date: 4/15/2010 2:39:52 PM

Ok, Em, here''s a pic of Hannah. She''s not gigantic, so I don''t know if draft is fitting, but percherons aren''t that big![]()

ALL.THE.TIME. My husband has entire conversations with the horses and I swear they understand each and every word. You should see the way my TB looks at us, (she probably just thinks were loony) but I swear she looks like she is listening and formulating her answer. HA!Date: 4/16/2010 10:46:07 AM

do you ever feel as if yours are talking with you? This morning I swear my oldest had a conversation with me. He was looking out his door with the most excited expression... like he just KNEW I was there to let him out. I said ''Are you ready?'' and he whinnied lol.
Hi Elro!! She does have both, how much of both is in question. She is very very in shape, but just like us in shape doesn''t mean she is in shape enough or has enough muscle memory to hold her frame for long. She has gotten better in the 2 weeks I have owned her, but she realllllly likes to test me. She has the training. Her career before the Eventing trainer got a hold of her was dressage...she just likes to push my buttons. That and she really needs to be warmed up well before she goes to work. I have to be on her working through the willies for about 20 minutes of nonsense before she puts her head down, stops chomping on the bit and does her job. She is very very smart and a total pleaser once she "warms up".Date: 4/16/2010 4:37:10 PM

TB, does she have the training/muscles to rock back on her hind end yet? That may be part of the problem with getting strung out. Once she is able to use her hind end properly her head and neck should be in a frame naturally.
She''s never offered to do it before, she typically is very brave, and scopey... I am going to chalk this one up to me not doing something I was supposed to, or unknowingly to me didn''t give her a que she was looking for. Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice back to the evil trainer you go.Date: 4/19/2010 11:37:57 AM

Ooo, dishonest jumpers really get me ticked off! I''ve ridden many school horses like this (hey, school horses have to entertain themselves somehow).![]()
Lol. For her sake, I hope she doesn''t do it again!Date: 4/19/2010 11:45:27 AM

TB - she is beautiful!
I cantered bareback for the first time in 5 years this weekend. I don''t know what made me decide I wouldn''t fall off (which has been my fear these past three months), but I just went for it. It was perfect.... we were perfect together me and my old man. I plan to do it again tomorrow![]()
Thanks, TB! I have a student who LOVES her Kerrits breeches, so I''ll definitely have to give those a try sometime!Date: 4/19/2010 11:41:10 AM

Oh Irish, I remembered as I posted on the random comments thread to mention that I happened into 2 pairs of the Kerrits performance breeches, they were on sale at one of the local tack shops. Terribly ugly color, which is why I suspect they were on sale, but my goodness, they are by far the most comfortable breeches I have ever put on! Shame my show ones aren''t as comfy. Just thought I would give you the heads up if you were looking again since you chimed in when I was asking for recomendations... and they do the ''flow rise'' thingy which is equivalent to the Ariat low rise waist!![]()
Sounds like emergency surgery and fast is definitely needed here if the owners go for it, I know how risky it is but we do this op a lot here and a good number do make it - sending my STRONGEST dust for this mare and her Mom.Date: 4/22/2010 9:27:59 AM

Little Bumpity bump.
I hate to even ask for it, but may I have some Horsey Dust for a friend?
An APHA breeder friend of my Husband and I...one of her mare''s whom she loves dearly just had a spunky little filly out of her beautiful APHA stallion. Foal is doing well but Mom wasn''t producing much milk and just wasn''t herself so they had vet out ASAP and they have found out she is quietly colicing after giving birth. They have her on IV''s for fluids and oil as well as some pain meds and the mare is at least comfortable.![]()
They have found that her colon HAS twisted and she has a 50-50% chance of coming around, I do not know the surgery details yet (if they are planning it or not). I do know hand raising a foal is terribly time consuming and hard on everyone emotionally. Not to mention the owner is very attached to this mare, she would be totally heartbroken if putting her down really is what''s best. The couple has had a though run in 2010 with a few other horsey issues, so if from one equine lover to the next could we send a little ''pooping'' dust for a colicy mare? I would be grateful, and I know they would too.![]()
