Haha it all depends where you live. We did.![]()
This is a long story.
We have a conservatory built on the end of our living room with half glass french windows, & at the time we had two parrots in their cages living out there.
It was late at night & I was getting ready for bed when the birds suddenly went frantic, flapping & screaming. So I went to look & see what was wrong....& there was a man standing, facing towards the bird cages & looking into them.
He suddenly turned to face me & reached out his hand towards the door handle. My instinct was to grab the handle to stop him from coming into the living room.As I did,I felt it opening & I screamed "Who are you!!?"
At that point I fled out of the room & screamed up the stairs to my husband that there was someone in the house!
He came down with a baseball bat & we looked through the french doors into the conservatory & there was no one there
.All we could see was water & bird seed spilt all over the floor from where the birds had panicked earlier. The doors &windows to the outside were all locked.
We went all round the house which was all still locked.
We sat downstairs for ages & eventually went up to bed, leaving all the lights on. We heard the sound of our coal scuttle being dragged across the hearth & when we came down in the morning, all the lights had been switched off& the coal scuttle had been moved to the other side of the hearth.
Since then we have had things go missing & a picture fall off the wall while we were sitting watching TV. I am scared to be left alone in our house over night & go to bed with all the lights on even though we have lived here for over 40 years.

This house is scary, is this a Halloween thread?
Yikes! What an interesting story!
Maybe the man used to live there, and he kept the coal scuttle on the other side. Have you ever researched photos of previous owners to see if anyone looks like the man you saw?

I have a kind of spooky, kind of funny, kind of sad little story.
I was in the bathroom of our former townhome/rowhouse brushing my teeth one night. It was really quiet. All of a sudden all of the toilet paper hanging from the built-in wall dispenser unraveled to the floor. All of it. It had never happened before.
The next day I heard an ambulance pull up and went outside. The paramedics were entering my next-door neighbor‘s rowhouse with the daughter of the elderly Irish lady who lived there. They brought her out on a stretcher. She was deceased.
A few days after that I spoke with the president of our townhome association. The Irish lady’s daughter had told him that she couldn’t reach her mother by phone that morning so she went to check on her. She found her mother dead on the floor. The coroner said she had had a massive heart attack, likely the previous evening. I had heard nothing that evening.
Which room did the daughter find her in?
Her bathroom.
Directly on the other side of our toilet paper dispenser.

I would like to know who designated that house to be the most beautiful home in America? Not being snarky, just curious. I have seen many homes that I liked better but it does have beautiful craftsmanship if you like that style. I don't think I could live in it.
I once saw a home on Padero Lane in Carpinteria, CA that I thought was the most beautiful I had ever seen. It has been sold for a few years now, but I saved pictures of it on my iPad. Whenever I need a relaxation fix I pull up the pictures. It was way beyond my means, but I would have loved to live in it.
It’s beautiful but not at all my style. Too much stuff.
I think it's beautiful. Most beautiful is a relative term but I'd def live there. My oldest daughter also loves old houses.
Not quite as architectually interesting but I really enjoyed this touring Dita Von Teese's house (AD).
She is also a maximalist. I could NOT live like that (just think of the dusting!) but for her a reflection of her loves and interests.

Ooooh do it & I'll post one!
Eeep that sounds manipulative, sorry! But I think that'd be great especially as October just started!
I wonder if she still has Ava Braun's purse......![]()
