Hi everyone--
You may remember I posted a couple weeks ago about losing a diamond out of my invisible setting in my e-ring. No, not the center radiant, but a small diamond in the band. Well......I got it back today. And I am not real happy. All the advice you all gave told me that these settings are not stable, pop stones easily, never look the same again, etc etc. I took this advice to the jeweler, they dismissed me, yada yada. Now the ring is back, and here is the problem. First, you can TOTALLY tell which side of the band had the missing diamond. The diamonds don''t lay as smooth, and there are tiny gaps between some of the diamonds. Second, you can see where they manipulated the platinum along the outer edge of the band to fit the missing diamond back into the band. Its a WAVY line of metal that rounds up ONTO the new diamond!!! Other side of mounting is sleek and straight. I have tried to take pics of it to post but my camera won''t show the detail well enough. I am so beyond frustrated. I need some advice as to how to handle this. Obviously I am taking my ring back in. I need the knowledge of how to express my concern and get rid of this setting for something more stable. I want to come across as firm, but not bi*chy. I want results, and not to be dismissed because I am picky. Who isn''t picky when it comes to their engagement ring! Please help me.
Thank you!!

Here is a rough draft of my ring:

Missing diamond was on left side, bottom row, second from the center stone. Thats where the metal is now lapping up and over the diamond. On the top left diamond it is protruding out, and theres a gap between all four far edge diamonds (not close to the center stone.) I know this is a pretty crude way of explaining, but its the best I could do without the pics turning out. Thanks everyone for your help here.

Not sure what to recommend.

I would think that if you present them with a logical argument, as you have outlined below, as it doesn''t sound "picky" at all, to me, you should be able to convey successfully your concern and your expectation for satisfaction.

I think that maybe appealing to their "jeweler''s pride" in supplying a quality product might help and if it does not, you can always present your case to the Better Business Bureau and possibly they can offer suggestions on how to secure customer satisfaction.

There seems to be a lot of jewelry stores who will happily assist existing customers with "upgrades" ... maybe you can choose to keep your business with them and select a new/better setting and this is a "win-win" for the jeweler and for you, even if you have to pay a bit of a difference for the upgrade b/c now that you now about the pitfalls of your particular setting, if you had it to do over again, you would have likely made an alternate choice anyways, right?

Sorry if this doesn''t make sense. Just sort of rambling out thoughts. I''m sure someone else will actually be able to share some really great advice based on experience.

Good luck to you ... I''m sorry you are having these problems.

After I read your post, I told my friend to take care with her own setting as it also has invisible set sidestones and she does everything in it ... Don''t think she heeded my advice as you have heeded the advice of those in the forum here but ... she''ll live and learn.

I think your suggestion is great! They do have a great equal value/upgrade policy. I have almost $5k wrapped up in the setting alone already. I am sure they can help me find something that is in that same price range or a little more (not too much or my hubby may start to get mad!!) and make this ring what it should be. Its just so frustrating. I feel like I live at the jewelry store. I appreciate your advice. And the silver lining here is that you were able to forewarn your friend about the possible problems with invisible settings. If I save even one person the grief I have been through, then its all worth it.

I''m so happy that you found some value in my thoughts & a silver lining to boot!
