Hi,

According to the Holloway Cut Adviser site, the tool “should be used for rejecting known bad performing diamonds to narrow down your final selection.” After stopping by Tiffany & Co to look at a couple of round brilliant diamonds, I was surprised to find that the stones I looked didn’t return an HCA score.

Instead, for all 3 stones, the tool responded by saying that “The total depth % you entered suggests the girdle is dangerously thin, or the data you entered is incorrect.” Now, I thought Tiffany’s was a brand to trust for their quality of diamonds. Am I missing something here? Can some of the experts on this forum please help?

Thanks!

Here are the specs:

0.50 G VS1
Total Depth %: 61.4
Table %: 57
Crown Angle: 34.6
Pavilion Angle: 43.5

0.49 G VS2
Total Depth %: 62.5
Table %: 57
Crown Angle: 35.2
Pavilion Angle: 43.5

0.47 G VS1
Total Depth %: 62.1
Table %: 54
Crown Angle: 34.4
Pavilion Angle: 42.9

That''s weird. Id think SOMETHING would come back besdies that...

I personally don''t find their product to be of any good quality. Mediocre. Walmart quality in a blue box. But Im not a big fan of them. ;)

Maybe those numbers aren''t percentages? I dunno. That''s really odd.

The HCA is telling you that the data your putting in is likely to be incorrect. It is not telling you anything about the cut quality of the diamond. Specifically, your pavilion angle cannot be correct. Where did you get your data from?

Simple mistake. What you have there is a crown angle with a pavillion %. You entered them both as angles. Fix that and you''ll get your HCA#

The groom is right.
It is better to ask them for angles - the % usually give you a better (less accurate) result than angles.

Yea. groom is right.

Hey Stan!!! Good to cya round these parts. Hope things are well. Ladies and gentlemen, Stan is THE MAN when it comes to radiant cuts.

Well I don''t know about trusting the ''brand'' of Tiffany for quality diamonds but that''s a preference thing...

I ran the #''s through the HCA using your ''pav angle'' as a % rather than an angle...

Now keep in mind that %''s are not as accurate as a real measured angle as %''s are rounded normally, so these scores may not be 1000% accurate (get angles if you can) but the interesting thing is that the first two did not score well IMO using the % which is surprising since normally if an % is used, I find it normally gets a more favorable score than when the true angle is used...to me that says that with true angles the first two scores may be even worse. The last diamond had the best score.

1st diamond scored a 2.1 VG VG VG VG
2nd diamond scored a 3.2 VG VG VG VG
and 3rd diamond scored a 0.9 EX EX EX VG

Out of those three I like the #''s on the 3rd diamond the best...did you see all the stones? Which one spoke to you as being most beautiful. Use your eyes as well as the #''s.
