It is hard and the world has changed, but you have wonderful memories of wonderful people. You will see them again. You will. This too shall pass, just like it did before.

Truth.
I remember March 2020. Greg was like we’re going and I was like do you realize there’s a pandemic happening? It was still so new.
He hadn’t (like many) yet processed the fact life was about to change drastically. Well luckily nyc shut down the bars a few days before. And then of course he finally realized unfortunately life was not going to be the same for a long time. It’s a process. But for me lol I guess I have a strong survival instinct because I got it immediately. I am a risk adverse person though so guess for me it’s easier to process and accept and do the best we can under the circumstances. But yes I agree with you. Life is getting back to the new normal and it will keep getting sweeter. I hope!

I too am very risk averse, and like to plan ahead as much as possible to avoid unknowns and uncertainties as much as I can.

I was really annoyed when I got Covid from going to social gatherings in March 2022, after avoiding it during lockdown for 2 years.

After that, I thought, what the heck, and might as well go out and about to enjoy myself.

Each person's risk perception level is different, and I only have a minor health issue being a Type 2 diabetic that is controlled by medications, nothing serious like your conditions!

Not a complaint or a grumpy so much as just a vent and disappointment in the situation that we have no control over but nonetheless it's disappointing.

For decades my dh and I have attended his alma mater's pub crawl first in Boston and then moved to NYC decades ago since most of his college friends live in NYC now. We have attended every single year until 2020 when the pandemic hit. And all the bars in the city were closed.

Last year they started holding the pub crawl again but I didn't feel safe in going so we did not much to my dh's disappointment and mine too as we both really enjoy the event. His friends are a great bunch of people and are my friends now too.

Well here we are again...another year gone by yet still I feel no different in terms of risk vs reward benefits. My DH and I have not yet had Covid. There is no way to know for sure if we got it that we would have a mild case. My hepatologist and pulmonologist both warned me to avoid it as best I can because if I got it there is a good chance it would be more severe than the average person. They both suggested under social situations to test everyone but with the pub crawl and thousands of others attending that is not something we can do in this case. They also advised if we could not test everyone to not attend that event.

My sister got Covid months ago and she was very ill. She kept getting worse and worse and needed Paxlovid and even then it took her a long while to recuperate. And she is younger and doesn't have as many health issues as I do. She has asthma as do I but none of my AI diseases. Seeing what she experienced there is a good chance I would experience even worst a case. Plus my dh is up there in age so that is another risk factor for him.

So there in lies my concerns and is the reason I do not want to go this year again. I am disappointed but my dh even more so. The thing is if I said to him just go without me then he would have to isolate for at least a few days or more since we wouldn't know if he got infected. So it would affect me and also I do not want to risk his health as it is not just about my health. He is my everything so yeah I do not feel comfortable with him going either.

Really just a vent. There is no perfect solution nor perfect decision and we all just have to make the best decision for each of us under the circumstances. If we had no pre existing conditions. If we were younger. And so on and so forth. But for me, the risk vs benefit ratio is just not enough to sway me. My dh is a trooper and is not upset with me at all. We both just wish the situation and circumstances were different. Thanks for reading

I’m sorry @missy..That really stinks..You and Greg look like you are having so much fun in the photos. This whole Covid situation stinks. My husband goes to see his brother..at a school where he teaches a bunch of teenagers. It’s not the same..but it does make me worried. I would definitely not go to a pub crawl. If my husband went..I would have him isolate too. There are many times my husband would go to something if I was comfortable. He doesn’t because he knows how I feel. It’s tough.

Thanks Joanne. I know you get it. It was one of our favorite things to do and we looked forward to it every single year. I even went in 2019 the day after I had surgery on my hand and experienced a horrendous reaction that took months to calm down. My hand was a wreck and i was in so much pain. It was challenging getting dressed and putting my st patty’s wig on…Yet I went and had a blast. That’s how much fun it is. My surgeon was aghast I went after the adverse reaction that kept on giving lol. But in hindsight I’m so glad I did go because who knew that the year after COVID would be here

2019. The last pub crawl for us so far,
But next year I’m determined we’re going.
Fingers (hahaha fingers) crossed

This photo from 2019 reminds me yes we will get there again

I just scheduled a vet to go to my grandmother's house and help her dog pass peacefully this afternoon. He is more than just a dog. More even than the furry family members we all have and love. He is her everything. He belonged to her son. She lost her son 11 years ago next month. This special dog was a piece of her son she held onto. He was there sitting with her as she has struggled with her Parkinson's and laid with her as we lost my grandfather a year ago. She commented the other day that losing him will kill her. My mom said it would be hard on all of us. I don't think she understands that she didn't mean hard. She really means kill her. I have had that thought the last year as we watched him struggling more despite ongoing vet care and meds. He is what keeps her going. I'm heading over there in a bit to help talk to a decision on what to do with his body after. I'm hoping she will cremate and bury with my uncle. I suspect that would help her pain of losing him. We'll see.

Anyway, difficult day. We'll take the days ahead as they come. She really shouldn't have another dog as he balance is bad and many of her falls are from tripping over or wanting to pet or care for her dog. Not sure she can survive without one though. I have people in local rescues who can help us if we need to get a mellow dog to help her through. Just not sure if or when the right time will be.

I got a thorough dressing down from the service charity, in that I was too harsh and brutal in my wash-up feedback and it was insulting, as it was not my place to highlight someone's deficiencies in their abilities and to suggest improvement opportunities.

I need to be kinder in my wordings, and be mindful of other people's feelings, and not be so brutal and direct.

I should also be mindful of everyone's roles in the organisation, and respect individual's strengths and weaknesses. Other examples were provided.

We agreed I can send any future contentious e-mails to someone for sanity checks before I hit the "Send" button.

It was acknowledged that I did what I did with good intentions, however, it did not come across as such and backfired.

I don't work well in a supportive role in a team, never have. I have been called intimidating more than once by my distractors in a work environment and outside.

I can't pretend to like something/one when I don't. I can't offer praise when I do not believe the person deserves it.

However, I need to try and be less confrontational and soften my edges.

I shan't offer to help with leading a sub-committee or be the lead in a team to organise events.

I shall be supportive in areas of my strength and expertise, which is IT related matters.

I shan't be gagged, and am not expected to do so, just need to tone down my wordings and be mindful of the feelings of the recipients. Soft skills that I am not good at, which is why I concentrated on being a specialist to avoid being in positions that would involve people management.

Onwards and upwards, hey ho!

@ItsMainelyYou @canuk-gal @maru8888777 @seaurchin

He is the biggest PITA that I've ever loved. He is a Savannah cat and his father is an African Serval so Atticus has approx. 54% wild genes and he is intense. He loves me more than anything in the universe and ungraciously tolerates the rest of humanity and my 3 other Savannah cats. If he doesn't like someone, they don't visit for very long which makes it convenient when friends come to visit and overstay their welcome, lol. He has scared away 2 cat sitters and I can't find anyone who wants to take on the challenge so I may never get to travel again. I miss having vacations.

I have childproof locks on all the toilets (because he loves to play in water) and 85% of the cabinets and drawers in the house containing things to which he shouldn't have access. I haven't showered alone since I got my first Savannah 15 yrs ago.

He can open lever and round door knobs so we changed out all the knobs so they lock with a key on one side to keep him out of rooms we don't want him in, especially the pantry where I keep the cat treats, and to keep him from escaping the house. When he flooded the house twice, we switched the floors from engineered hardwood to luxury vinyl plank, more waterproof and more durable.

He has as a 10 ft vertical jump from a sitting position which means the chandelier over the dining room table is sometimes his trapeze. Luckily he hasn't pulled it out of the ceiling. When we remodeled the room, I had an extra strong beam put it to hold the chandelier more securely. Once he jumped from the center of the dining room table 15 horizontal feet into the living room, landed on my lap as I was taking a sip of coffee which spilled onto my laptop and fried it. In 2020 he broke 2 brand new big screen TVs within 2 months by jumping into the tv cabinet and hanging on them. In 2021 we remodeled the living room and relocated the fireplace which included a niche for the TV so he can't pull it down, at least not yet. There's more, so much more, but I'll stop now lest I get the urge to fling open the front door and encourage him to run free, lol.

He is the reason I pour vodka over my breakfast Cheerios.

Bingo! I've said that a zillion times but truly, I'm not human mom material. I like animals more than kids. My stepsons love me because I treated them like cats  Their personal hygiene was so atrocious when they were young that my cats refused to share their litter boxes with them.

Considering my options, as I don't like being called a bully when I was trying to help and provided honest and direct feedbacks and opinions!

Anyway, I shall make a decision after the weekend away with some of the grandees from the service club, including the one who said I was a bully during my dressing down yesterday! :roll2:

I had hoped my cold is not a cold but Covid so that I could use that as an excuse not to attend the weekend away. However, it was only a cold.

The others may talk some sense into me, or the subject would not brought up at all, who knows!

It is only 1.5h's drive away, and I can leave and come home earlier than planned.

Hey ho!

On another note, I have lost a small amount of money by supporting a crowd funding initiative, for a mouldable glue over 10 years ago.

It never achieved its financial goals, and although the products were good, they failed to get off the ground which is a shame.

I had already written this small amount off as the 200 GBP share only worth about 1.53 GBP 5 years or so ago, so it is no big deal to me.

It is unlikely for me to get involved with any other crowd funding initiative again.

DK :))

He has the cunning of a velociraptor, the stubborness of a terrier, and the tantrum capacity of a toddler. If I don't give him everything he wants, he takes it.

I’m feeling sorry for myself since I had dental implant surgery today. Normally, this wouldn’t bother me since I have a high pain tolerance ( pushed out 2 9+ lb babies with no epidurals ) and try not to complain. But this is my second go around on the same tooth because the first one failed which is extremely rare. After 8 months ( tooth extraction, bone graft, implant put in ) my dentist, who is also my good friend, was going to prepare for a crown and the implant loosened up and came out. So now I’m going through it again and I forgot how much it hurt.

Well, I'll feel sorry for you too because I went through the same thing. I try not to remember the details because it was pretty painful.
The third time was a charm for me but the whole process (including the failures) took about a year. I have a low pain threshold and my
jaw was so swollen. (I had an infection) The throbbing was unbearable. Thank goodness for the painkillers but when they started to wear off...lord help me!

I was prepared that it was not going to take the third time and just planned on getting a bridge. I mean, how many times do you attempt
it before giving up? So glad that it did take and its been easy to deal with ever since they finished with the crown. Hang in there @Piper70 ! I know it can be frustrating and painful!

I am at a very much anticipated hair appointment. I expected a wash, cut and style. She cut it and sent me and my dirty hair on my way, and I’m too timid to speak up. So here I sit with greasy hair while my daughter gets hers cut.

Being an anxious introvert is exhausting.

@michellelynn9175 that stinks. I also had an appt and she admitted to double booking. I got washed, cut and dried, but in such haste I’m not happy either. But I feel obliged to keep going to her because she cuts it like I prefer and is a local widow just trying to make ends meet so…

My girl has very poor time management skills so I’m typically not in the chair at my appointment time, which I can handle, but leaving and having to come home and wash my own hair is a less than stellar experience. Next time I’ll just be more clear. It worked in my favor today because I had plans after the appointment (plus it’s less expensive for a dry cut) but I’m incredibly mad at myself for not being able to speak up.
