When I was about ten I stole a golf tee from a store and it worried me until I returned it. I wanted to know what it felt like. Thank God I never thought about what murder would be like.

I never stole from a store, but I did steal from my parents.

My dad keeps quarters in his car for when he goes to the self carwash and since he doesn''t wash his car that often, there are a lot of them. When I was 7 and the soap was obscuring the windows he was washing, I took a bunch, 7 dollars worth and hid them in my shoe. When we got home, it was a really nice day so my parents decided we would all walk to the shopping area about a mile away which we did often. Once we walked there, walked around and walked back, my feet hurt so much. As soon as we got home, I confesed so I could take my shoes off. My parents took the qurters and didn''t punish me because I definitely learned my lesson.

My DH and I are totally planning on being terrible when we are old and when we get caught wander away mumbling about walking the dog if we get caught.

Funny story!

My dad's wallet was filled to the brim with 20$ bills. No he wasn't in the Mob.

When I was a teenager, I'd take a 20, now and then. He was never the wiser.
What killed me was before I was going out and had already slipped the 20, he'd ask you need some money???

I'd say, nope thanks am all set... But thanks, have a nice night!!!

Oh the guilt that comes out!!!!!

My kids haven't done any of this...

Mainly because they don't have a need to..

We have a wonderful and healthy relationship.

I never have. Being caught would be too humiliating. and I would feel guilty forever

No, I''ve never stolen anything. To be honest, it never even occurred to me to steal as a kid or a teenager. I know that sounds strange, but it''s true.

I once stole a Papa Dash seasoning salt off the table at a restaurant for the fun of it...but that''s the extent of my life in crime.

I took some candy from our local grocery store when I was about 2 or 3. My mom caught me eating it and marched me right back over there and made me apologize!

In highschool I did take a couple of things... not anything that was "for sale" though. Our local Chili''s always had loose tiles on their tables that were painted really pretty and I took one or two of those. I took a fancy teapot from a restaurant once but I figured they''d just charge my credit card if it was that big of a deal. And I think I took a little sign holder that sits on the table at some restaurant... just because they were all cute.

I feel really guilty about it now of course but it is what it is.

When I was 16, I went to the Jersey Shore with a bunch of girlfriends. We decided we''d all go up to the boardwalk and steal one item, and whoever''s item was most valuable won bragging rights... I took a pair of sunglasses. One of my girlfriends went into a dressing room and tried on a cute dress. She bolted out of the store, and the workers bolted after her!! She got away, and won the bragging rights. Oh, the stupid things we do as teenagers!

Oobie... You''re right, it is what it is. My DH once took a bottle of steak sauce from a restaurant.

I stole a (my?) beer stein at Oktoberfest in Munich. Those buggers were not for sale and they were from the Hacker-Pschorr tent! The fine for being caught was 60 euros. I chugged my beer down and hid the stein in my purse. Winked at the security guards on my way out of the tent.

Besides that, never as much as stole a quarter from my parents.

ETA: While it doesn't make it *right*, I still look at the stein very fondly and will do so until the day I die. So I can brag to my g-kids that their g-ma was a rebel back in her days...oh yeah, you heard it right!

Haha I used to do this! I had a major problem for awhile.

Lol, I stole something about five years ago utterly by accident. I was in Goodwill shopping, and I found a velvet blazer just exactly like my favorite one I''d ripped the lining on recently. So I took it off the hanger and put it over my arm and kept shopping for a while. Didn''t find anything else. Boy that blazer felt really comfy on my arm- just like mine! I walked right out with it and totally didn''t think about the fact that, er, it wasn''t mine yet. Got in the car and drove off. Put the blazer on later that day and noticed the scratchy tag on it. And seriously just about fainted at my own stupidity. It was $1.99. I was too embarrassed to go back and tell them... probably I should have, but I didn''t.

Working at an antique mall I see some weird stuff. Once when it was really, really dead early in the AM I was working the biggest floor alone. This scuzzy guy came in and I walked around a corner and found him standing there with what was obviously something very large and misshapen under his shirt. Like several feet tall. So I just asked him what the heck it was. He got all sheepish and pulled this two foot tall Roseville Magnolia vase out from under his shirt, apologized, and bolted. It all happened so fast I was just left standing there with my mouth open.

We once got hit by a mother and her 10 year old son. The mom would distract the salesperson (me) and the son busted out some bolt cutters, cut the locks on a case with coins in it, cleared it out into his backpack and they both took off. That situation made me ill.

DH once caught this little old lady with about fifty antique prints down her pants. That was odd!

I did go through a shoplifting phase with my sister when we were both in our early teens. I guess we thought we were being very clever or rebellious or something... of course we eventually got caught. We were sent to a class at the courthouse where the put the fear of god and the law into stupid teenagers. Well, of course when we showed up the entire class consisted of our highschool classmates. Including my future husband, lol! Ridiculous.

I forgot about this but I actually did something really similar! I went to our university bookstore a few days before Christmas to buy window stickers for my parents'' cars. I grabbed 2 I liked and apparently just shoved them in my bag because I realized later on the 4 hour drive home that I had 2 stickers and hadn''t actually paid for anything! I felt terrible!

I stole a keychain at disneyworld early in high school. Peer pressure was involved but it''s definitely not an excuse. I felt bad and never put it on my keychain. Not something I plan on repeating ever again.

radiantquest- my friend stole something on accident too after being drugged up for a medical procedure. Realized when she sobered up that she had a thing of black nail polish in her pocket that she didn''t even remember picking up... I guess the lesson there is don''t step foot into a retail store after medical or dental procedures haha.

Actually DH almost stole a whole cart of stuff from Home Depot about a week ago. He was deep in thought (or so he claims- coulda been just spacing out!) and rolled the cart right out the door and to his car, totally forgot to check out. He realized what he'd done pretty quick and wheeled the cart right back in to the checkout. Nobody said a word or even looked twice!

Oh and as far as stealing from parents- actually, my dad stole from *me* in highschool. I was paid in cash and my bank was a long bus ride away. So I'd pile up all these $20 bills. He could not resist and looted my college cash stash for drugs and gambling.

okay i will confess.the only time that ive stolen something was when i was 8 years old...grape lifesavers from the store...got clean away with it too...but the problem ...those grape lifesavers were like lead in my mouth and tasted aweful!I threw them on the ground and decided that if thats what happens when you didnt pay for something then i would never steal again...never have had a desire to own something that i had to steal since that day. When i was older i mailed the store a letter and the owned amount for the candy.

I always thought of myself as a good kid until now. This thread has dredged up all sorts of naughty memories. Let''s see...

Once, when I was maybe 5 I stole a sucker while I waited for my mom at the hair salon. I was caught and felt terrible but to be fair, I was really really hungry.

When I worked at a golf course pro shop, (in high school) I would pocket the cash from last minute range balls after the cash register was already closed.

This is easily the worst: When I was a teenage, a friend and I worked at a popular retail chain. Together we devised a plan to steal two large bags of clothing. Everyone there stole, and our coke-addled managed turned a blind eye but still. Not ok!

Thankfully, this was many many years ago and my theiving ways are now behind me :)

He probably thought your mother was taking it.

I did once in middle school when out at the mall with a bunch of girl friends. It was definitely due to peer pressure. We each took a flavored, tinted chapstick from Claires. I remember that I loved the color of mine, but the flavor was RAISIN and it tasted nasty, so I never used it. I also thought about how I stole it every time I looked at it so I kept it hidden away in my room with love letters and the like.

Nope, never shoplifted anything. I don''t think I even really ever thought about it, because I''ve always been kind of a goody two shoes. I''ve always been too much of a rule-follower and scared of breaking rules/getting caught doing something I shouldn''t be doing/disappointing people. I''ve grown out of that a little bit as I get older, but it''s still there sometimes.

This thread reminded me of something. When I was growing up, there were always pain pills in the house from my dad''s surgeries and my mom''s migraines. I knew where they were and what they were, but until I was in my 20s and heard about perscription drug abuse among teenagers, it never occurred to me to even do that. It is odd to me looking back that it is so obvious to America''s youth, since I was totally oblivious, not that I would have taken them anyway, I don''t like messing with stuff like that, but still.

Totally off topic but was it Bonnie Bell''s "Rantin'' and Raisin"? I had that one and loved the color but that raisin flavor sure was terrible!

Nope.

My dad taught me that even stealing soda from a fast food restaurant when you asked for a free water was not worth the embarrassment and trouble of getting caught. I got my kicks by flirting with my physics tutor senior year, who''s now my SO and future fiance.

I''ve never stolen anything but was "arrested" once. When I was in highschool, my friend and I went to a drug store and were looking at green eye shadows and I handed her one that looked like what she was hoping to find. Well, she put it in her pocket and one of the employees saw her do so and because I handed it to her, they said I was an accessory to the crime and hauled both of us to the back office and threatened to hand cuff us. My mom threw a HUGE fit and so no charges were pressed against me, but IIRC my friend was charged. I don''t remember for sure because we weren''t allowed to talk after that.
