Made me wonder....have you ever had a friend or family member ask you what your opinion was on a new piece of jewelry that you thought is/was really tasteless...what did you say? Some of the pieces that show up at Estate sales have to make you wonder what people were thinking...I know that ive got a few pieces from the 1970s that people were wondering what i was thinking when i wore them!

Jewelerman, this made me think. This past weekend all my family was gathered for my graduation, and my mom had just gotten her gorgeous BGD upgrade - a 1.65 ct. AGS Ideal. Big, sparkly, amazing. My grandmother and great-aunts didn''t even comment or notice it! I realized why when I looked at their jewelry - BIG (as in massive) yellow gold and gemstone filigree and elaborate rings and earrings. A simple white gold setting and "only" a ~7.5-8 mm diamond didn''t even register to them

Oh yeah---remember nugget jewelry? I kept my mouth shut, but it took effort.

Amen to that sis-ta!

I sold my share of that stuff in the late 80s...(i think i will have to do some time in jewelry Hell for that!)AND I''m also guilty of selling black hills gold jewelry and mothers rings in my jewelry past!(remember that friends don''t let friends wear mothers rings or black hills gold!)

No, but I have no doubt many people feel that way after seeing my very unique ering. I don''t love my mom''s taste, but nothing terrible, just not me.

I cannot stand the workmanship on my lil sis''s ering, and I know she got *ripped off* on the centre stone, which is windowed (she chose a tanzanite and hence has a coloured stone ering).
It is in a shoddily made bezel with some dull gypsy set diamonds, and WG that looks terribly dark gray..

It takes a lot, but I''ve kept my mouth 100% shut on that one.
I just feel bad because I know they paid a pretty penny for it, went custom and everything

whew, that feels better! That''s the first I''ve ever vented about it - cheers J-man!

I like my mother''s ring.
One child, five oval Aquamarines in yellow gold.
And as for Black Hills Gold,
To me the design is more important than the medium.
It doesn''t have to be tacky.
