Nope. Newspapers as well as cable news channels have already been considered "unbiased".

ETA: At least that's what I've heard! I should probably look it up before I open my trap.

I learned prior to age 5 that "fairness" was a concept, not a reality.

It must be genetic because when my son was 4 we were in the grocery checkout line. He pointed to some candy, and I said no. Pause for 15 seconds, and a tiny little voice sighs loudly, and says "Life''s Hard". The whole line cracked up

Some people in Govt want to bring it back, seemingly targeting conservative radio. But, if they did bring it back, wouldn''t that force TV and newspapers that are obviously liberal to show the conservative side too? And what of ''free speech''?

Hahahahahaha. Hohohohohoho. Hehehehehehe.

Okay. I''m done with the ironic laughter.

No. It specifically targets an "Opposing Viewpoint Unlike Their Own Brand of Propaganda". It is a clear violation of free speech. No one, regardless of their ideology, should be silenced. Out and out treason would be the only case. I don''t think anyone -- other than Bill Ayers and his ilk -- would really fall under that definition.

I agree with you Hudson!

Thanks for the info on Rahm, he is living rent free in a basement, but it is illegal to rent the basement out, so which part is more illegal? link Luckily he is looking to buy a house now that his wife and family are moving to DC.

Bill Clinton supports it, too. The drumbeat has begun.

I live in New York City...I''m definitely considered "scary" here.

Sadly it is the "liberal media" that seems to be more likely to present both sides of a story - the conservative ones don''t even try. Public Television/Radio is a great example - decried as liberal but always having people from the left/right present their views. But hey! They are liberal - so it does not really matter what they do, right?

The nemesis of the left, Bill O''Reilly, always asks the other side to present their viewpoint. And he will listen. We know he won''t agree, but that is not the point. He does give them a chance to have their say; and he is usually cordial about doing so. His interview with Obama -- prior to the election, but after the nomination -- is a case in point. He asked some pointed questions, but he was not confrontational. But then, how would you know? You would never stoop to watching the Number One rated news show (and yes, we are talking Nielsen ratings, not a fly-by-night conservative poll).

Are you talking about the same loud, pushy, hot-headed O''Reilly I''m thinking of? The same O''Reilly that screams at his guests and asks that their mics be cut off when he''s had enough of their opposing views? Whether you like him or not, one thing''s clear: Bill O''Reilly and the word ''cordial'' don''t belong in the same sentence.

I see him most weeknights because the DH watches every show. I''ve never seen that take place. I have seen Keith Oberman get strange, cranky, constipated, blithering, or red in the face. Many times. And I only watch him as I flip channels to get somewhere else.

The man's known for being confrontational and intimidating, often interrupting his (left-leaning) guests by shouting over them. Just Google "Bill O'Reilly angry" and you'll find enough crazy video clips to last you a while.

His flip-out while he was on Inside Edition was hilarious. I love the dance remix.

Ironic that those who rail the loudest against BO''s "shutting up" of his guests, would be the first to embrace the "Fairness" Doctrine in order to shut HIM up.

Ahhh, censorship AND unbridled hypocrisy. What a combo!

A bit dramatic, no? The article linked was simply stating that ''some'' support the idea. What does Mr. "Fair and Balanced" O''Reilly have to be afraid of, exactly?

I was referring to the clip in the above post from the anti-FOX movie...not the article.

And if Mr. O was "afraid", I think he'd stop having adversaries and differing opinions on his show--something that happens on a daily basis...without the histrionics.

BO "afraid"? That's really kinda laughable. Just understandably sick and tired of the holier-than-thou diatribes from some of his left leaning guests. And boy, do I get that!

Which is precisely why I get my about 98% of my news in the form of words on a PAGE. With the page, I am not distracted by the monumental ego or affect of the person delivering the news. I have time to digest the info given without dealing with eyerolls, waggling eyebrows, tone inflection, shouting, any of that. Just the information. I don''t even watch the major network news anymore. As a culture, we seem less and less able to just deal with the information without having to love the PERSON delivering it. Just give me the information thanks, I''ll parse the words without YOU in it. Bias is still just as easy to see, and I don''t have to get personally disgusted all the time at the fact that the person twisting it with his own personality is a complete a**.

He talks over his conservative guests, too. That''s the ''style'' of the show, and everyone knows that when they appear on it. It''s talk radio with a camera.

And what is so wrong with showing anger at what you consider to be stupid stuff? Remember, this is ''his'' show. Not the networks news broadcast. He can do whatever he feels like doing. As should anyone who has their own show.

But that doesn''t negate anything I said about giving air time to other points of view. He does. Now, we all know he''ll dispute what others say; but he did give them a platform.

And, really, have you not seen "Hardball" with Chris Matthews? I''m sure you can find video clips of his ''acting out, and acting up'' too. iT''S WHAT THEY DO LADIES. IT''S THEIR JOB. IT''S WHAT THEY ARE PAID TO DO. It''s expected. If you don''t like the host, who will have the last word, don''t watch.

No. You can get ''real'' news. From the pages of say The New York Times. ''Cause we all know the Jayson Blair writings were real news, from a real observer of the news.

Would that that was their only major gaffe. But no.

My favorite was the time he yelled at the young man who lost his father in 9-11. I nearly punched the tv screen.

Ahh, O''Reilly, Mr. No-Spin, the guy that edits his viewers letters before putting them on the air so that he can respond in the way he wants. Oh yeah...great guy.

At least O''Reilly hasn''t claimed that 9/11 was an inside job, as many celebutards and pseudo-journalists have. Or downgraded it from being both a tragedy and a declaration of war, as Keith O has. As far as Keith is concerned, it''s old news, and not worth rehashing. How do you think 9/11 survivors/families feel about that? They feel like the families who demanded, and got, an audience with Obama after he decided to suspend Gitmo trials. Plenty pissed off.

Being a surviving family member of a 9/11 victim does not automatically absolve you from being a kook. I'd have few nice things to say about anyone...ANYONE...who wants to blame the US for what happened that day. Some people deserved to be shamed. Even publicly.
