The F-word.

:appl: Bravo. Very well said.

ETA: Crud, i thought I quoted this correctly, but apparently not! My apologies.

Very true. I've said this before (to the horror of other women I know) and I will continue to say it. The women who struggled and fought to get us the right to vote, wear pants, have jobs, get equal pay, etc. are wonderful and they need to be remembered for what they did.

But.....
Things are getting (have gotten) out of hand.

Like Steal and PPM pointed out ---- men and women are DIFFERENT! ---- we all have our skills, talents, gifts, etc that we are able to contribute to make the world better.

You may consider me a feminist because I think men & women should get equal pay for EQUAL work, a woman who is better qualified and in a higher position should get paid more than the man (as he should be paid more if the opposite is true), birth control is great, voting is something we should all do.

You can consider me anti-feminist because I'm sick of how I've seen my "feminist" friends treat men, I'm sick of having to work twice as hard to prove myself because other women got hired as "window candy", I think abortion after the first trimester is WRONG (with the exception of those that are medically neccessary to save the mother's life) -- if a woman was raped isn't 3 months enough time to decide if she wants to keep the baby?

And....
If my house is burning around me, I'd be FAR happier to see a muscular guy heading for me than a woman who threatened to sue if she wasn't allowed to have the job.[/quote]

I'm an 80's baby and for me feminism means being who I am as a woman. It means being able to make my own choices and take my own path in life. I was raised by a strong woman who eventually took control of her own life and she was a great example for me. I do my best not to let any one person or society in general dictate who I am or who I should be. I consider myself a confidant woman who is comfortable in her own shoes, I am content with myself and I have the women who came before me to thank for that!

I am a feminist, and I'm not going to qualify that statement in any way.

I'm also old enough to have been around when the feminist movement was in its early stages. For me, it will never be a dirty word or something one should be ashamed to admit. It's something to be proud of, and I am.
