The list of the most e-mailed articles in, "The New York Times" often catches my eye when I look at the website, so I see things that I wouldn''t, otherwise, read. Today I saw this piece called, "The Endorsement From Hell" which was too good to miss. You really have to read it. It is just too funny. It is not something one wants to take lightly, of course. It is a kind of black humor that might bring out the best in a Kurt Vonnegut...someone who knows how to cross Kafka with Donald Duck.

Although Hamas is apparently supporting Barack Obama, al Qaeda has come out in support of John McCain. They believe that his policies will best help them to continue their work. He must be grateful indeed.

Ouch. Doesn''t surprise me though. A president driven by his gonads would be far easier to predict and manipulate for their own purposes than one as self-contained and cool as Obama.

al Qaeda is very good at propaganda.
It is smart to try and hurt the one they don't want rather than the one they do.

Didn't they endorse Kerry in the last election? I am pretty sure they did; let me see if I can find the article. I guess I am saying there is no rhyme or reason.

Agreed, but that line of thought is beyond anyone at the NYT.

One only needs to look at Iran and Jimmy Carter to see how nice they play with a "peacemaker". The bit about a pro-troop President being "good for recruiting" is a stretch. Al-Q has been decimated under Bush and would continue to get hammered under McCain. Recruiting might be easier with a definite antongonist in McCain than under a weak Obama but I''m sure al-Q would love the USA troops removed so that they can have a place to fester and breed unfettered. Right now their leaders fear for their lives whatever hole they are residing in.

No, Al Queda is not very good at propaganda, they have our uninformed but zealous actions to do all the work for them, and candidates who sing "bomb Iran" without understanding the growing power Iran has in stabilizing Iraq. If you can read Arabic, its pretty easy to see that our actions in Central Asia are doing their recruiting for them; check out for yourself in the Jerusalem Post or Haaretz for translations of the Arab press into English.

Actually, Al Queda supported Bush in 2004, from Fox News 2004.

"We change and destroy countries," the statement said. "We even influence the international economy, and this is God''s blessing to us."

The statement tells American voters that Abu Hafs al-Masri supports the re-election campaign of President Bush: "We are very keen that Bush does not lose the upcoming elections."

The statement said Abu Hafs al-Masri needs what it called Bush''s "idiocy and religious fanaticism" because they would "wake up" the Islamic world.

Parts of the statement were released Wednesday night by the editor of another London-based Arabic newspaper, Al Hayat. The editor read parts of the statement to The Associated Press in Cairo.
