Oh, I''m in an odd mood today as I sit and wait for a plane to take Mr Gailey and I home from two weeks of bliss in the Dominican Republic that was shattered only by the devastating earthquake in neighbouring Haiti.

I have an insatiable appetite for news. News of any description and from anywhere in the world. Good news, bad news. News on TV, news on the internet. I gotta get my news fix wherever I am, no matter what.

I was directed by Mr G to a story about the remarkable Anastassia Ellas from the UK''s Daily Mail site about a man who makes much more than 6 figures a year. I was going to post it on DF''s thread, but see that Ali has closed it. I needed to read a nice piece of news today amidst all of the bad and I wanted to share it with all of you.

Man''s abilities and talents never cease to amaze me. Here''s a picture of what this man can do:

thanks for posting this info and the link. who would ever have thought toilet paper rolls would become art?

that's amazing. but I wouldn't pay 90 pounds for one (because I don't earn more than 6 figures so I don't have $ to throw away)

I agree Noelwr. I don''t make 6 figures either and am not likely in the market to purchase one. Knowing Mr Gailey as I do, he''d mistake it for re-cycling any how.

But isn''t the internet a wonderful place where some of this stuff can be seen without spending £90.00 and shared with one-another thanks here to Ali and Andrey for a place where I can share.

Thanks to DF (you old goat!) for sparking my imagination. I''m guessing you make 6 figures or more, so perhaps you will buy me a toilet roll sculpture.

The nearest (actually exceeded once) my ability to make 6 figures is my small collection of origami cranes I made from Starburst wrappers. Legend says you need to make 1000 to ensure health and prosperity. I''ve got a-ways to go yet, but I''ll post a photo of them when I get home.

Ha, this is better than origami!

Have a pleasant flight, Gailey!

that said, I still wouldn''t purchase one.

can''t wait to see your origami cranes!

Cool! Thanks for posting that!

That is so cool. It warms my heart to see the creative things that come out of someone's mind. It's so beautiful.

Thanks for sharing.

It is always humbling to me to see what kind of incredible things come from the imaginations of people who are truly creative. Very cool!

the ultimate recycling! from merely a functional object to a work of art.

thanks for posting this, G. its a reminder to myself that there is actual beauty to be found in the oddest places if one merely takes the time to look.

In the interest of health and prosperity, I'd be more than glad to help with eating the other 985 Starbursts.

Very cool art BTW. Thanks for posting it.

Glad you're both ok. Have a safe flight home.

I think those are very creative. Seeing stuff like that always makes me wish I had come up with the idea first.

I''m trying to figure out the conversion here. Is 90 pounds the equivilant of $146 dollars? Yikes. I can imagine my cat tearing the "art" to shreds.

There are tons of kids'' projects which toilet paper rolls. My kids love them.

Hey Treefrog, you just send me the wrappers ok? I daren''t so much as look at another starbucks packet until I''ve worked off my holiday calories.

My hips and my bottom are telling me to walk home with a 50lb pack on my back!!

MC, I know what you mean. When I was a kid there was nothing we couldn''t make out of empty egg cartons, toilet roll tubes and sticky backed plastic! The most successful UK kids tv programme which has been running since 1958 has built a good deal of it''s success on the humble toilet roll holder.

Time for just one more Mojito I think .......
