The difference between liberals and conservatives

I watched it. Haidt is the guy that I linked to (and Moon did too long before I did) who wrote the piece that I thought was more complimentary to the conservative mindset, and which no one (or so it seemed) actually bothered to read. I thought the replies to his piece were great too. One of them was by Michael Schirmer (sp?). I have his book "The Science of Good and Evil", an excellent read on just this topic. (By my inability to be sure about the spelling of his last name, you can assume I can''t find it right now: I think it may be loaned out at the moment).

I did read that piece, and passed it to several people as well. My brother sent this video to me, so I thought that people might actually engage it, rather than reading a long article.

I am currently reading Haidt''s Happiness Hypothesis with SO.

I thought that the video was interesting, but ended really kind of flat. I do think it''s great to try to understand the "other side" though!

I did read that piece too, ksinger, and I thought it was way better than this speech though. I don''t know...I found it interesting but at the same time the end left me hanging. Also, the way he set it up in the beginning, about liberals being more open-minded....I kept waiting for him to oppose that mindset (or as he called it, a stereotype)...but he never did.
Then again, I watched it at like 3am, so that could have something to do with it. I''ll watch it again later.

I agree that he made the liberal side sound more "appealing", but I wasn''t sure if that was my liberal bias, or him pandeing to what he knew would be a liberal audience. He seemed to imply that there was a genetic predisposition towards liberal/conservativeness, but didn''t explain why people tend to get more conservative over time, or if environmental factors are about to change one''s orientation.
