The Daily Happy Hour -- Starting TODAY!

@Dee*Jay My first orphan glass has arrived & I absolutely love it! It’s come over to England from France in only 4 days & is completely unscathed / unmarked apart from some teeny bubbles. The details are French, crystal, dated 1900. It has a lovely polished pontil mark on the base & it’s so heavy. It rings like a bell when I flick it, but I can’t upload a video here. I shall use it tonight with some Tattinger :kiss2:

Ohhhh Yessss! This is so right! And the heavy feeling is just scrumptious. Looking forward to more as they appear!

Oh Ally -- that's FABULOUS! Air bubbles and a pontil mark; true hallmarks of vintage! We do anticipate a photo of that beauty with some of Tattinger in it. :cheeky:

BTW, I thought of this thread yesterday when I spied these at an estate sale! So sad there were only two…. I couldn’t get my hands on them fast enough!

Thank kae kae! That is one of my many MANY vintage glasses, which is something I collect. This glass was made by Central Glass Works in Wheeling, WV. This pattern was produced from the 1910s to 1930s.

ETA, it's hard to tell in this pic, but the glass is actually lavender colored.

I have been to that glassworks on a tour back in school, very interesting.

Daxx! Now you all have me looking as glassware!

Here to oblige, M’ Lady! Though I confess I only got about 5 gulps out of it, so once I’d welcomed it to the family, I washed it & placed it on the tray, where she & her new siblings shall live :lol-2: She looks very lonely there at the moment….

I love the Cheshire cat and Alice next to it! Although Tenniel's pig and flamingo gave me nightmares.

The crystal Orphanage will soon be populated. I have faith!

Well spotted! Mr T bought this ink sketch for me last year & as yet I still have to decide where it should hang, which influences how it should be framed. But it’s VERY relevant to us, not least because we are definitely all bonkers & discombobulated around here :lol-2:

I can’t let you drink alone Ally! One of my favorites: a Fenton Jade Green coupe. IMG_0645.jpeg

I will also be contacting NASA to let them know there are indeed little green men… and they like bubbles! IMG_0646.jpeg

That’s so funny!!!

Now THAT'S a coupe! What a piece -- LOVE IT!

I asked the same question about the base the first time I found glasses like that and was told the it forms a "saucer" to capture any overage that might run down from over the top. Important with zealous pours and very fizzy champers. ;))

Brilliant! It ensures that one can lap the saucer after one imbibes to the point where one's lips go numb and lose adequate suction on the rim.

HI:

LOVE this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cheers--Sharon

Yes Matata -- I'm SURE that's what the makers had in mind with the design!

I’d frame it @Ally T. I love it. It’s priceless. Mr T sounds like a pretty great guy!

What a find Ally. I doubt your beautiful glass will stay lonely for long. Your beautiful home deserves special glasses like the ones in this thread. Can you see yourself collecting beautiful glasses as another hobby?

And then what? You lick it out in a very ungainly manner? :lol-2:

Thanks Callie. I am addicted to looking at glasses now. I have another on the way, but I’d love to make time to start visiting antique dealers & browsing / learning more. I think there will have to be a limit to how many I buy, but I do have an AWFUL lot of shelves in the Music Room that could become homes to them!

Well... you be you... but I think the *other* idea was to daintily dab it up with a napkin. :cheeky:

A LIMIT?!! Blasphemy!!! You've got land there... Outbuildings!

These are the two orphans I rescued yesterday while out thrifting.

Pshaw. That's a fallacy and you know it! :saint: Folks of yore slurped it up!

Trying to get the champagne in the saucer reminds me of Herbert Pocket teaching Pip to drink wine:

Take another glass of wine, and excuse my mentioning that society as a body does not expect one to be so strictly conscientious in emptying one’s glass, as to turn it bottom upwards with the rim on one’s nose.”

I had been doing this, in an excess of attention to his recital. I thanked him, and apologised. He said, “Not at all,” and resumed.
