Empliau, please tell me you kept the wine glasses!

@Ally T, I love Antique/vintage glassware. @Dee*Jay sells beautiful glasses. I searched for antique/vintage glassware years ago because I also love them but found some had small flea bites around the rims. I didn't buy them because I wasn’t sure if they could be repaired. I can’t wait to see what you find.

Calliecake, you can try wetting the rim and using a very very fine sanding block. If you use some blue tap to cover the area right up to the part you're sanding it will help keep the fix in the exact area. Otherwise, the sanding block can create fine lines around the rim. Frankly that wouldn't bother me, but I just wanted to mention that extra step to localize the fix.

BTW, sorry I got a little over zealous here! Saying "antique champagne coupe" is like lighting a fire under me, ha ha.

Sadly, no. But my sister has them and uses them. I have instead a vase they bought in Venice (or Murano, probably) long ago, which charmingly still has the price tag on the bottom! As a child I used to gaze at it and thought it the most beautiful thing in the world, so it has a place of honor in my dining room, although it is not for drinking, alas.

It's hard to see in artificial light, but the glass is deepest ruby red and very beautiful.

My great-aunt was in Venice in 1947, not long after the war: she taught on an exchange program in the UK 1946-7 and traveled in Europe - we have her photo album, so weird to see an empty Piazza San Marco! And while it's nice to think that she might have bought it then, there were other trips with her sister (they never married, were teachers, and shared a house all their lives) so perhaps they bought it later. I know they had it by the mid-1960s though, in the cabinet with glass doors in their dining room.

All of those glasses are gorgeous...and empty...so I'll compromise my liver to balance that out. What I won't do for you people :mrgreen2:

Opened this thread finally to find cocktail buddies and discovered Dee’s cache of glass! Holy shit!

Matata, you are a friend indeed to take one for the team!

Monnie, LOL! To be fair, pretty much everything I posted here as examples has gone through my shop. But I have an UNGODLY amount of glass of my own. That's actually what got me to start my shop to begin with four years ago -- I opened the absolutely crammed full cabinet to pick out a glass for my nightly libations and realized someone had to give. I am pretty sure I have over 1,000 glasses in my personal collection...

HI:

Still waiting for holiday cocktail pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wavey:

cheers--Sharon

@Dee*Jay This information (& eye candy) is SO fabulous! Thank you for taking the time to reply. I’d love a mooch in your shop, but alas I am an ocean away. Some of those colours …… :kiss2:

I do have news though. I have dipped my toe & am awaiting my first glass to arrive! It’s an antique champagne coupe made my Edinburgh & Leith, dated between 1920-30. It’s cut crystal & the wait is killing me. Sold as perfect condition, no flea bites etc, just light use & the only one left in the set. A true antique orphan. I’ll post a picture as soon as she arrives (definitely a woman. Too elegant to be a man :lol-2:)

I also have my eye on an antique faceted coupe from 1900. Another orphan. Just trying to do my research into different types of decoration etc.

Also, can you clarify what an optic pattern is? Is that one I can see in the glass but not feel, so its not etched or lasered & feels smooth to the touch?

Oooooh Ally -- I can't wait to see your new glasses when they arrive!

An optic pattern can is like a visual effect. I can be both seen and felt (sometimes on the inside only, sometimes on the outside only, sometimes both) but is not etching or cutting. Does that make sense?

Sharon, I swear I have photos for you but I need to sort through all the pics from the last three trips to find them!

I dont know @Dee*Jay. I’m trying to decide what would be more fun, going thru your jewerly box or going thru your stemware collection? As someone who loved going to antique shops and flea markets for most of my adult life, I totally get how fun this is.

Please post pictures when your antique champagne coupe arrives @Ally T . I can’t wait to see this treasure.

@Dee*Jay I appreciate :kiss2: many of the pieces you've posted over the years.
I wish I could window-shop screen-shop your store.

Within PS rules, and within your comfort zone, is it possible for me to get that website address?

I'm more than happy to share my info, but I'm not sure I'm allowed to post the website here... ?

Are you in contact with anyone that I can pass the info through? Maybe Storm/Karl? Or, if you have a LoupeTroop account I am on there and can post a contact. I'll also ask Ella if it's allowed to put the site info up for you.

Would love to get your advice on photography tips! I think my listing photos have gotten better over the years, but I would definitely take any direction you could give me on improving!

Sorry but nobody on PS today has my contact info, and I've never registered on another site through which we could connect.

Howz bout you and I both ask Ella to connect us?
Or if you prefer I could ask Ella to send you my email address.

Ella must know by now we're not spies for Russia/China/Musk, or that Orangerangutan.

It'd be fun to work with you on photography.
Disclaimer: I have never researched the specialized photography field of glassware photography, which I suspect is all about lighting.
But maybe I could be useful for other aspects of photography.
And actually I'd enjoy researching glassware lighting.

Maybe we could work via FaceTime if you, like me, have apple gear.
I've never registered for Zoom, but I've used Skype, because you don't have too register - last I checked.

Sure, I'd be thrilled if Ella could connect us! (As if she doesn't have enough to do here, ha ha.) I did message her last night, so if you reach out to her please tell her to use the email I provided in my message (which is different than the one I originally used to register on PS many years ago).

Finally — cocktail pics from my winter travels

Champagne in Aspen!

And a hot chocolate with Baileys in Big Sky. I sorely needed this one—it was about -16 outside with a “feels like” temp of minus who-knows-what that night!

@kenny - I did an Etsy search for Fostoria to find @Dee*Jay 's shop. The Etsy search function is absolute dreck, but I found it with a little persistence - the photos match this thread.

Thank you for giving that little clue!

Also, if you use Google Lens on the image with the three amber champagne coupes on the previous page, or the first image with the multicolored Lausitzer coupes, at the top of this page you get there, which might be a little easier than wading through all the Etsy results.

I agree with you @empilau, the Etsy search function is absolute dreck! It's a shame, as I used to be a frequent shopper there myself, and I DO try to support other small businesses on the platform, but it is more and more of a challenge. Fortunately the things I sell are so specific people can generally find them.

I must be doing something wrong, as when I google lense on either of these images I get a multitude of sellers & pictures, but nothing with the same picture? So I can’t find you! :cry2:

ETA: Scrap that! Found you but you don’t ship to the UK?

Ally, I didn’t use the exact same pictures here because the first thumbnail photo on the site often has my shop name.

Oh! Never mind - I just saw your “ETA”!

Ally, I do ship to the UK but there were some packaging regulations that went into effect for Northern Ireland in December that are very problematic. Unfortunately Etsy didn’t give us a way to separate out only NI so we had to remove all of the UK. Send me a message with your email and I’ll give you more/better options. Or, contact me through my direct site (just Google the same shop name with the word “Vintage” At the end). The banner at the top of my site page looks very similar to the banner at the top of the Etsy store page.

The BEST expresso martini I've had was at Mama Gina's in Palm Desert. Mind you I don't drink alot of them but it was sublime.

So pretty here!
