Harriet -

have you heard when Tavern on the Green is meant to be reopening under new management? i read the projected dates, and they were promising a spectacularly fast turn around. the court dates to figure who owned the name were coming up soon (late january?) and then it was full steam ahead till opening.

i dont know when exactly phoenix's friends want to hold their brunch, but i suspect this restaurant will be open extended hours, and would be a wonderful place for brunch. the ritz carlton downtown is gorgeous also - with a faboosh view. very nice for brunch.

Phoenix, the Central Park Boat House is open for brunch on saturdays and sundays. it doesnt get much more new york than that.

(i'm still going with per se, private dining room, tho!)

Per se private dinning room if money is object:-) l haven''t eaten there, but everyone I know who has raves about it!

Le Bernardin is lovely (DH and I went there for lunch on our first day back from our weekend honeymoon, it was really special for us!)

for those chiming in on this thread who want less expensive options, Jean Georges has a 3 course great prix fixe at Nougatine, it''s like $25, really delicious, and sometimes you get to see him:-) and there are veggie options:-)

Hi Whitby,
I think it''s still an open question. Let''s hope that the new management trots out better food than the last. ;)

Ooh I wanted to go to Per Se this summer, but alas, a law student''s budget does not call for $300 meals

i wouldn''t mind paying for a $300 meal if it kept me full for a month.

hi harriet :)

i hear ya! i went there for lunch a while ago and had a truly strange meal - very odd combo of flavors - and badly cooked. i do hope the new place is wonderful - central park deserves that.

T/J - how are you holding up with the weather? i ran away for the winter, but tim tells me it's pretty bad at the moment; both he and the dogs come back from their walks frozen! because of all the salt (acidic) on the sidewalks we make our dogs wear booties. every time we pull them out, dixon gets a disgusted look on his face! (i'm going to put a photo of him in his booties on my W/W thread - it's kinda cute

You ran away as well?! I had to. The summer and fall were miserable.

Per Se has a two-month out reservation policy. They book no less than 60 days in advance, as does French Laundry in CA.

hi holly :)

just to turn this around (and this may be what you meant anyway)... they dont take bookings any *more* than 2 months out. as in - you cant book any further ahead than 2 months. you *can* book less than 60 days in advance...if you can still get a table. for lunch, that's generally possible. they also have a salon area now where you can generally get in at short notice; it's exactly the same food, but in a more casual setting - sort of like what Nougatine is to Jean Georges

man i'm hungry!

Wow, guys, you are soooo helpful!! I really appreciate all the suggestions and have forwarded them to my friend who says to thank you too.

Hi Harriet, good to you see you!

Glad you "popped" in.

I'm hungry now thinking of all these amazing restaurants. You guys are so lucky to live in NYC. One of my brothers and his family are moving there this summer. DH and I are planning to visit them soon. We'll for sure visit as many of these places as possible!! YAY!!
