A SQUASH ball sized diamond is expected to fetch up to $7.5million when it goes under the hammer in Hong Kong.
The 101.27-carat gem is the largest colourless diamond to appear on the auction market in 18 years and one of only three colourless diamonds of over 100 carats to have ever been auctioned.
This girl’s best friend was cut from a 460-carat hunk of rough crystal and mounted on a tiara, rather than a necklace or a pendant because it is so THICK.
Hong Kong (AHN) - A flawless 101.27 carat diamond- the largest colorless gem seen in almost two decades.
These are but a few of the lots to be hammered off at Christie''s much-anticipated May 28 "Jewels: The Hong Kong Sale" auction.
A total of 345 lots will be put on auction. According to reports, the Christie''s collection will fetch over US$ 56 million in sales.
Christie''s Chairman of Jewelry, Francois Curiel, said in a JCK India interview that to date, there have been only three other colorless diamonds 100 carats that have appeared at auction, all of which were sold in Geneva.
The F color, internally flawless VVS1 101.27-carat stone, is valued at $6 million, JCK India reported quoting Christie''s.
"With Asia becoming such a vibrant market, it is fitting that this rarest gem should be offered on May 28 to the growing number of collectors in this region," said Curiel in the same report.
Other notable jewels in the collection include a 10.63-carat rare green diamond valued between $2 to $3 million; an exquisite pair of jadeite cabochon stud earrings, worth $2.3 to $3.2 million; and a jadeite bead necklace expected to fetch between $2.15 to $3 million.
