So I got a call last night--SUNDAY-- at 9pm telling me that my neurology appt today would need to be rescheduled, that the doctor would not be able to come into the office today. Same doctor who I had to wait a month to see bec he was on vacation for a month. The tone and time made me think there was some emergency with a patient or family. I called just a few minutes ago, no no. No emergency. He just got invited to golf today and wanted to go because he leaves for his next MONTH LONG VACATION again tomorrow. Are you for real!? How do you have money for this if you never have time for patients?!

She offered other doctors, and I accepted an appoitnment for later this week with another doctor.

Apparently in order to take so many vacations, I need to become a neurology specialist. :angryfire:

FOR A GOLF GAME??? PRE VACATION???? :nono: :nono: :nono:

I'm with ya, Ame, that does not seem like a "patient first" service he's providing. You'll be better off with the other person - at least they were willing to see you!

Sounds like someone's priorities area bit ....skewed.

Absolutely. :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire:

It sounds like the nurse is a bit :angryfire: too, to have provided you all that information!

Hopefully the doctor you're actually going to see won't be such a DUD!

Wow, that sucks about the doctor canceling but the staff telling you all this information is kind of unbelievable! What kind of staff "rats out" their boss, and leaks information that gets patients upset at the doctor?? It really sucks that the doctor has the cancel, but really it's no one's business where she's going! A simple "I'm sorry to have to cancel your appt with Dr. X tomorrow, there has been a situation, but I can schedule you with Dr. Y at this time if you can make it." would have been more professional.

I really hope your Dr. Y turns out to be a better fit for you! It's time to move on from this particularly flaky Dr. and his unprofessional staff.

My sister was scheduled for surgery and got a call 2 days beforehand and was told that it would have to be rescheduled. When pressed, they told her it was because the doctor wanted to extend her vacation another couple of days! They set a reschedule date, my sister rearranged her work schedule and, you guessed it, they called again to reschedule. This time the problem was that they were getting flack from the patients they were trying to bump so they could reschedule the vacation victims. Seriously, I told her that there is no way I would let that doctor operate on me.

:angryfire: See, I'd figure a "I'm sorry but there's an emergency" would have at least kept your sister and your family feeling less upset, vs. telling the truth. NOT that her rescheduling is excusable for such an unnecessary reason.. BUT!! C'mon! That's horrible business and relation practice!! Maybe it was the surgery gods telling you to get a better surgeon..

Madelise, I agree with you completely. My sense is that the lady from the office deals with this a lot from this particular doctor and was willing to vent. That is part of the reason I told her she should go elsewhere. Unprofessional all around.

Yea I was pretty pissed. She sounded equally annoyed though. Especially since my first appointment had also been rescheduled and I had to wait another month. If this gets rescheduled, I am going elsewhere for sure.

I would be pretty pissed about a surgical schedule change like that though. People have to move mountains to make sure they cover work and family for those..."oh yea, can't make it now" is not valid.

That's SHOCKING! Especially after a previous delay. I hope you get a chance to chew that dr. out -- I sure wouldn't hesitate. And if the other one reschedules, I agree, go somewhere else. Is there a website with dr. reviews you know of? Angie's List has one & that's just the sort of thing the reviews there are useful for. Hope all goes well anyway!

I have hesitated on joining Angie's List...

But if this one cancels...forget it. I will find someone else. I already talked to my normal doctor, she was SHOCKED as well, not necessarily at the reason but that I've had this happen now twice with this specific doctor, who she said she's never heard of him cancelling anything before. Whatever. I think his secretary was beyond annoyed probably bec she had to call and reschedule all these people.
