Thanksgiving 2020-What R U Doing?

It depends on the weather. If it’s warm enough to be on the screened porch (with coats and blankets), my parents and sister/family will come. We will sit at 3 socially distanced card tables to eat. If it’s too cold, I will deliver meals to my parents and sister and we will try it via Zoom...

I live in Canada, but I freelance for a US company and get US holidays. Plus, I just love American Thanksgiving! It's so festive. People get way more into it than Canadians typically do about Canadian Thanksgiving.

So my husband is going to take a few days off, and we plan on making amazing Thanksgiving food and going for a hike. We go for hikes several times a week anyway, but we always go for holidays and for some reason it feels a bit more special :)

We'll also probably do Zoom calls with my family in the US. They're not huge Thanksgiving celebrators, but I'm so desperate for any kind of family holiday contact right now.

Last night when we were talking about what we're going to make, my husband asked, 'should we invite some friends?' because he momentarily forgot about the pandemic, but I had not forgotten and was like 'no, are you crazy???' What a weird time.

Full huge dinner for just us and hopefully both sons. Though it's looking like the one won't be home in time. Probably prime rib.

Oh, this sounds so nice. :)
I wish I could deep fry something for Thanksgiving. But I’m scheduled for gallbladder removal surgery and I’d better not tempt fate!

I hope it goes smoothly @SallyBrown I had it done a long time ago. Mine was done laparoscopically..Little incisions you can’t even see today.

Thank you so much, @MamaBee! I’m glad you healed well from your surgery. Mine is scheduled for January. I’m kind of nervous, but hoping it goes well. Apparently a Da Vinci robot will do the surgery. I hope my robot doesn’t have COVID! ;-)

Blessedly, my SO and I don't do holidays.
What a relief!

No plans.
Just another day.

Haha It will be fine @SallyBrown

Holing up with my little pod. My Dad will probably want to do rack of lamb. My DH and son will want prime rib. I want stuffing, and my daughter wants dessert. Not a big turkey family.

I want stuffing

I love stuffing on a scary level -- eat it hot, eat it cold, with gravy & without; have it for breakfast/lunch/dinner; make stuffing patties fried in butter until crispy on the outside; stuffing sandwiches -- yes, bread between slices of bread. Some may say I resemble a rabid dog when it comes to preventing someone other than me from eating the last bits of stuffing.

:lol-2:

About 20 family members will GTG eating turkey and prime ribs. Yes, shame on us. :naughty:

Nice knowing you my friend.
You're right ... only we evil liberals need to be careful about avoiding C19.
Conservatives and Glob's chosen people are immune and don't have to worry.

Enjoy y'all's T-Day party.

Enjoy your party.
Kenny, I'm fearful of catching the virus too, but not to the point of letting it ruin our lives. AFAIK we haven't kill anyone yet. Had we SAH for the past 8 months we would be in the mental hospital by now for depression. We enjoy seeing our 3 grandkids as often as possible. This virus is here to stay for who knows how long? Idunno1.gif. If you don't feel safe of leaving your house please stay at home, but don't try to shame others for living a normal life.

Like you always say...your MMV.

DF, normal is often an ugly and misused word, as is shaming.
Normal is a number - as in people who fall in the largest group, like people with black hair, people who are right handed.
Which, by implication in your post - abnormal people (other colors of hair, or left-handed folks), are bad?
Nice. :nono:

So, if what I say saves some lives, and what you say is more likely to end some, which of us should be ashamed?
The life savers, or the killers?
... but hey, enjoy your holiday.

Can you prove I'm a carrier of this virus? I survived the HK flu in 1969 and I'll survive this Covid 19 virus.

I've a friend who's invited us for thanksgiving (outside, its FL) She's had the virus already as has the friends who are now still in my driveway. She's invited 10 couples as she won't be around for the Christmas holiday (she usually is, has a giant party but that's out of the question this year). The friend thats hosting is doing fast tests before people can come in but they're not the most reliable so we will stay home. I will send cookies because I always make cookies for her holiday/birthday party (its all she ever asks for ) and will see her afterwards without so many around.

I do miss my friends terribly, but, neither of us have had covid (and I got placebo!) so, I will not take the chance with our health. We'll make food her, and just hang out.

6 of us for Thanksgiving. The family of 5 and my son's live-in girlfriend will be dining together.

I'm not used to doing all the cooking (usually more come and bring side-dishes). This year I'll be doing all of it. I had thought about
ordering some food but sometimes just heating it up is as much work as just making it yourself.

The way you write this it sounded like it was from Dr. Seuss! So funny!

There is nothing scary about what you’ve written here. This all sounds perfectly normal to me.

We are making the full meal for the three members of our household. Then we will live on leftovers until Christmas! Ok, maybe not that long but it will feel like it.

DH and I are staying home. My grandparents usually host the family. Grandma wants us to come but not the rest of the family. I don't feel like dealing with that kind of drama. I have been visiting with them for the last months, but with the extended family specifically not invited I expect hard feelings if I went to spend the day with them while my cousins weren't allowed...

One of their daughters (my aunt) lives with them along with her two kids and my brother. They won't be alone. The people with them probably won't be too cheery and tend to sulk, but I keep hoping they can pull it together enough to at least have a reasonably happy dinner. Grandma really loves family meals.

I think you are very wise to sidestep all that!

We are in the middle of selling our house and moving. Definitely crazy times! We will have my grandparents over for dinner in our new house once we move. I will.also be there this weekend and again two days after Thanksgiving as my grandparents each have a birthday coming up.

Not sure if we will have turkey at home on the day of or not. Lots up in the air right now. Would love to do the full dinner for us if I can. If not, will do it in the new house on a different day. (With my grandparents...)

I'd worry. When I go out in public I'll always wear a mask and carry a little bottle of hand sanitizer in my pocket and practice social distancing.

@kenny, I'll be sure to eat an extra slice of turkey just for you on T-Day.

Nice knowing you my friend.

So, I guess the million people who were out celebrating on the street after the election were all conservatives?. Yup, a great example of social distancing!!

Definitely Dr. Seuss-like!
