Thank you all very much for your help, advice, and patience with someone who knew absolutely nothing a few weeks ago. I realize I am a very indecisive person.

I finally decided and the ring should arrive next week sometime...

Leslie said an appraisal was not necessary if I didn''t want one (so as not to inflate insurance premiums)...
and speaking of insurance, is it common to just add it to renter''s/home owner''s insurance (especially given the cost of the ring)? That is what I had originally planned on.

Awesome stone and setting!! You just cannot go wrong with BGD!
I have my jewelry attached to my homeowners as a "rider" I believe it is called.....I have separate insurance on my jewelry but it is all through the same company if that makes sense. I use Liberty Mutual.

I think you need a rider if it is over a certain dollar amount; otherwise, it is all inclusive with your homeowners.

Check your home policy. You probably do not need a separate rider for your ring. Most policies will cover jewelry up to $5000 with a small deductible (say $500). All you will need to have is your receipt and the cert to prove what the item was in the event of a loss. I think the deductible is small enough that it mught not be worth the monthly premium. But you ay feel differently.

I have a separate jewelry policy for my engagement ring and a few other pieces. I got engaged when I was in my old apartment so I added a separate jewelry rider to my renter''s insurance. When we bought our house my insurance company just transferred the jewelry rider to the homeowner''s insurance, still as a jewelry rider.
