Hi all,

Thank you for all of you who rescued me from making a wrong decision (I was about to buy bad EGL quality earrings) 6 months ago and helped me finding the best stones for my stud earrings.

Finally I got my stud earrings today. I purchased a beautiful GIA stone from my local jeweler using their gift certificate and I got a beautiful ACA stone from WhiteFlash for the other setting. I had them set in platinum 3 prongs basket settings at my local jeweler. They came out great and I am totally happy with my stud earrings.

Now, I have a question. My earring backs are butterfly push backs (metal is platinum). They are very tight and secure, which I love, but it is very hard for me to take them off. I would like to wear the earrings every day, but I prefer to take them off when I go to sleep. Will it damage the butterfly backs or the posts if I take on and off every day? Should I keep them on even when I sleep? I am afraid that I will eventually damage the setting if I keep taking on and off all the time. Which is good for the earrings? Keep them in bed or take them off?

Lastly, I would like to say thank you to WhiteFlash! All WF people I contacted with are very kind and friendly and their diamond is just perfect. I am 100% satisfied with not only with the quality of the diamond but also with the quality of the WF people.
In spite of hurricane, everything went so smooth and the stone I purchased from them is absolutely beautiful. My local jeweler also admitted my ACA stone is a really good stone and he just loved the WF Heart Arrow viewer. He wanted to know where to get it.

I just started wearing my diamond studs 24/7 instead of leaving them in the safe or taking them off at night. Instead of butterfly push backs, I have the disk that locks onto the post (you push both sides to release it). Because the posts & backings are platinum & 18k gold, i don''t believe that there will be any damage. The only damage that i know of is the skin on my ear where the post pokes into every night! Personally, I don''t think you have anything to worry about unless you sleep on your side and put a lot of pressure on yours ears....and your head weighs 50 lbs.

Jerichosmom,

Thank you so much for your reply! I received a very kind e-mail from Bob, Whiteflash. He saw this thread and he kindly answered my questions. Wow! - What a great customer service!! Their service always exceeds my expectations.

He said it is OK to take earrings on and off every day as long as I don't bend anything. So I decided to take them off when I go to bed.

However, all my friends wear their stud earrings 24 hours like you,Jerichosmom -- they never take the earrings off when they go to bed. I am still wondering if it may hurt the prongs eventually by scrubbing with pillow or by catching fiber or not. Am I just worried too much?

Congratulations on your new earrings, I bet they are beautiful!
I have always worn earrings to bed...mainly because I forget that they are even in my ears to begin with. I have never had a problem with doing so.

I can''t STAND wearing jewelry to bed so I don''t. Congrats on your new studs!

Moko, when studs were my earrings of choice, I slept in them. However, as long as you are taking them off with care, there''s no reason you can''t take them out each night prior to turning in.

I take my earrings out everyday - I don''t like sleeping in them and I am one of those people who has to clean their jewelry every day. I bet they are lovely. Enjoy!

Thank you Whiteflash & Should I wear stud in bed?

I see nothing wrong with wearing a stud in bed

I think either would be fine. Congratulations on your new earrings!!!

Hi,

I take my studs off very night (ALL my jewelry comes off the moment I step foot inside my house - dunno why I feel this need but I do) and I have the annoying as heck threaded backs and so far, its held up.

So, short answer is: I dont wear my studs when I sleep BUT I do like sleeping with my stud

I really can''t say whether taking your earrings out is good or bad for the metal, but sleeping in them could be detrimental to your ear. A lot of people can sleep in earrings without a problem, but some people get infections and skin irritations when the stud does not allow the skin to "breathe." If I leave studs in for more than a night or two, I''m almost guaranteed to get an infection, which, for me, means I have to leave my earrings out until it heals--always a bummer. I''m not saying this will happen to you, but just be aware of it, and make sure the area around your earring stays clean if you''re wearing them 24/7.

I think you are probably fine taking them off every day as long as you give them an inspective every few months by eye and take them in if something seems loose.

I am so sorry that I took so long to say thank you to all of you.
OK, now I understand that for earrings, it does not matter if I keep them while I sleep or take them off and on each day. But for ears (and skin), it is probably a good idea not to keep them 24 hours-7days. Thank you Kittybean, I did not realize that!

Thank you so much to all of you for clarifying on this matter. I have sensitive skin and also have metal allergy, so probably it is a wise choice for me to take them off before I go to sleep.

Thank you again everyone for all your advice.
Lastly I will attach the earrings I got. Thank you!
