Thank you card etiquette

We received a wedding gift from a couple who doesn''t live together, actually they live a couple (driving) hours apart from each other. Do we send two separate thank you notes?

Yes you should send two separate card.

We sent a thank you to the person that was invited, if it was say a person that brought a date.

If they were both invited separately, but chose to split the gift, then send 2 thank you''s.
