Does anyone here have a ring in a tension setting? I am seriously considering, I like the look, but how well does it actually protect the diamond? Would the force with which it holds the diamond decrease over the years? Would it be possibly for the stone to slip out of the setting if knocked or something? Would a setting with two ''prongs'' like on the picture be any better at keeping it in place than a regular setting that just touches the stone at two points?

sorry, here is the example picture.

mmm, I think setting is kind of fug.

when done right, tension settings are safe, and it's alwasy a good idea to get insurance, regardless of your setting type.

Very few people go twenty years without having their rings resized. Tension rings are difficult to impossible to resize properly. Most need to go back to their manufacturer for the best results. Stones do come out of tension rings, but only from abuse or if the stone breaks. They are relatively trouble free from most problems and stones rarely loosen since there is a lot of pressure on them.

The name, "Tension" sounds good, but it really is "compression". Tension implies something is being pulled away from both sides and is being stretched because it joins both the sides being pulled away. In these settings, it is being pressed in from both sides and the diamond is not physically connected to the sides, only press fitted.

Tesnion designs are among the most simple and clean of all the settings possible. Most are somewhat thick so that they have a lot of necessary strength to hold their shape. Special metallurgy is employed to make the metal springy and to resist re-bending.

Very pretty :) I have a tension setting ring and am very pleased with it. I was told by the salesman (I know it was the salesman but I believe it) that tension settings actually protect the diamond. Because they are under so much pressure and the ring it self absorbs the damage. Anyway good luck
