I am in the process of getting an engagement ring.
Can anybody please give me some advice what kind of setting would be better in terms of security of the diamond, comfort of the ring, looks and prices.
I heard very different opinions about tension settings, from the most secure settings ever to high failure rate. So I am a little confused. So it would be great in case you have some information to share, if you also could state where you got the information from
Thanks for every input

I would not worry too much.
The way you look you will not be given a ring

Your question is too broad.
There is another board here - and if you search tension setting in the search box you will get heaps of info

It depends on how the rings are manufactured. In a channel setting, which I think you mean semi bezel, the jeweler cuts a seat in the metal for the diamond to set in. This can vary in how much metal touches the diamond from 40% to 90%. Anything less than 60% your probably going to have problems with so would not recommend. You will probably have to have the ring inspected often for the metal is bent or hammered over the seat where the diamond sits and can loosen easily. Again the security depends on who makes it and how they make it. Varies tremendously with the jeweler/designer.

With tension (compression) there are three main players. Each has a different technique for the hardening of the metal but I can''t recommend who''s best The finest exerts 12,000 pounds of pressure per square inch and these are the most secure you will find. The manufacture again is key here for it is not fair to generalize the manufacturing technique.

With the best designer of both techniques you should be trouble free.
