i have not posted in awhile, but have drastically changed my plans for an ering because my budget is much different. I was going to have about 10k but I think now we are going to have to limit ourselves to $1,000, possibly up to $2,000 if its the perfect ring. I am willing to settle for a much smaller diamond, .5 carat or smaller, but if it is going to be small I want an interesting setting and I have fallen in love with tension settings, one in particular. I have a couple of questions about them. I won''t ask if they are safe overall, I know there is debate, but do people know if they are equally safe with a smaller stone? Also, I am looking for one that I can wear a wedding ring with, even though some of the ones I love best are twisted or shaped in such a way that it is impossible. I saw one gelin abaci setting in another post but I can''t find it on their website or any other. Still, it is so close to my perfect ring and I wanted to know if anyone had seen anything like it anywhere. thanks! (i am not sure if i know how to post pictures, so sorry if it doesn''t show up) if you can''t see it, it is the ring posted by SuzyQZ in this topic: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/need-your-help-tension-setting.67808/. sorry, my computer skills are subpar.)

Ahhh that''s a beautiful ring. I have a tension setting by G&A, and I just love it. You hear many say that it is as safe as, if not more safe than prongs. I tend to believe it. In the case of my ring (Click Here) I feel it is more protected by the twist design, but yours should be fine as well, just make sure it doesn''t have a very thin/thin girdle, less chance of chipping. Also, for mine, they DO make a wedding band, but I don''t consider it something you can wear alone, as it more complements the original E-Ring....

It should be just as safe with a smaller stone, it really should make a difference. Mine is only .55, which I find to be a perfect size for these types of settings.

If you can''t see that specific ring on the G&A site, best idea would be to talk to a jeweler who deals with G&A, to help you out.

Good luck! I hope you do decide to go along with G&A/tension rings. They ROCK!

I think tension settings with smaller stones are even better. That way they don''t get too wide. Plus, they have such a clean, modern look to them with smaller stones.

sorry, I do not know how to reply with a quote! That is a gorgeous ER!! I love tension set! My original ER was tension set and it is only.27 but I find it looks bigger than that. Please post hand pics if you end up getting it. Truly a gorgeous ring!

I should add the only reason I don't wear it anymore is because it was set quite high, with high sides, and it scraped the baby a few too many times, so I ended changing to a bezel set ER.

you get the jist of it here. Very plain 14k white gold tension set .27. I got it done in a satin finish as well, which I preferred. It really changed the look

thanks for your opinions. the problem is i can''t FIND the ring in the picture! it''s driving me crazy because i am completely and totally in love with it. does anyone know how to contact suzyQZ about where she got the pic or has anyone seen anything like it anywhere? i am almost sure it is above my price range but since i''ve seen it nothing else compares, in my mind. it''s just, the one. anyone have any ideas how to go about finding it?

have you tried contacting them directly? gelin abaci, that is?

I have tried through the general contact form on their website but have not heard a response yet. I was also thinking about getting something similar custom made, but I am afraid that someone without a specialty in tension settings could not do it right, and that it would be much more expensive.

Oh no. For a true tension setting you don''t want to mess with around with manufactuers. Too easy to risk losing a diamond.

Is this it? Here is the picture.

It doesn''t have a price, but maybe they can give you more info over the phone.

yes! that''s it! thanks so much, i''m so excited that it''s actually something that is available! unfortunately, robbins bros doesn''t have a store near me and they seem to discourage buying online. i think i could get around that and get to one if i can''t find it anywhere else but i am still not sure of a couple things- is any ring you buy there made by Gelin Abaci and are repairs done through the store? also, if i don''t have a store near me, how can i get my ring checked, can i ever get it resized, and can i do these things by sending it directly to Gelin Abaci without going through the store i bought it in?

Try Micky Roof. mickyroof.com. They have a good rep on here, work long distance and are prob. the cheapest. If it''s not on their website, send them the pic and I am sure they can get you a price.

Don''t get a normal custom maker to do tension. The metal ahs to be worked in a special and propietary way to provide the springiness i.e. ''tension'' required to hold the stone in long term.

Good luck!

p.s. Çã†hër§, have you posted your ring? sounds gorgeous. I am such a fan of the tenion and of satin finish.

sure did, that''s it, up a few posts, before the satin finish was done. I much prefer the satin finish on this ring.

Sorry!! I was just having a stoopid moment. It looks lovely! I like the surprise diamond. But am I right, you changed it to bezel set? we had a bit of a conversation about the Tiff Etoile a while back didn''t we? did you post pics of that one?

I am still considering setting my new stone in that type of setting but it''s a bit bigger (traded up from last one) so I''m not sure if it would be too much plain metal, or just too heavy. I think I would need the band to be about 7-8mm wide.

the tension set ER was my original ER. It has suprise diamonds on either side, and I got a matte/satin finish applied to it! LOVE that look on this ring. I then got another ER that belonged to my Mum, which was a semi- bezel set oval diamond. It needed some major work, and I sent it to David Keeling to be repaired. I still need to do a write up about my experience, but have been crazy busy with the kids going back to school. I posted a picture of my new to me bezel ER in the fire thread. I prefer the bezel ER much more, because my original ER had scratched the baby quite a few times.
