Hi,

I am new to this site but am currently looking into engagement rings.

I am really keen to purchase a diamond online and particularly want it tension set. I have decided on an approximate design but would feel more comfortable having the diamond set here. Not least because I would have to pay additional tax to ship back a set ring vs. just the diamond.

Am aware of people like Niessing (their designs a little ''heavy'')but wondered if anyone knew of any reputable jewellers in the UK who are well known for their tension settings.

Any help or direction you might be able to offer would be massively appreciated as have scoured the net to no avail.

Thanks a lot in advance,

G

I believe I read that tension set rings are usually heavy because they have to be the width of the diamond to prevent damage to the stone. Maybe one of the experts can say if this is true or not?

I am also in the United Kingdom and have never seen branded tension set rings. I remember seeing ones in the Argyle Arcade in Glasgow, Scotland years ago but as there were many shops in there, the Arcade is full of only Jewellers, I do not know which shop it was in or if they are still there now. It was not a branded name as far as I remember.

Thanks both of you for your help.

Must say I am amazed that there is almost nobody in the UK established and experienced in setting stones in tension. A gap in the market surely.

FYI I did find the website of a company in the UK called Paul Spurgeon Design (www.paulspurgeondesign.co.uk) who does appear to have some tension designs. I plan to contact them and if anyone who has heard of them and has any comment to make I'd appreciate a 'heads up'.

Thanks very much,

G

Hi,

Just for the benefit of anyone who has a similar query or interest......

I found Niessing settings a little to bold and thick set compared to SK and G&A but have now found a company called Bunz (www.bunz.de) who do some really nice tension designs. Like Niessing they are a German company but have a number of dealers in the UK as well as an office in London. Also, they will set you own stone by sending it away and setting in their head office in Germany.

Cheers,

G

Hi there,

I am glad you pointed out this site. They have some really great looking designs.
