tension ring risk

I am no expert, however, I would be happy to set a stone in that style as it would be quite well protected.

Instead of paying the price for platinum, I would save myself some pennies and have a cobalt chrome ring made by Boone in similar style: http://www.boonerings.com/stone-settings/helixx.htm

DK :))

That would certainly save some $ that one could put into a stone. Interesting suggestion.

I can vouch for Boone Rings.

My wedding band was made by Bruce and was a series of 5 custom plates, comprising 3 different materials (including meteorite!). He did a great job of ensuring I was happy and was EXTREMELY quick to respond to emails.

Turnaround was fast and giving input was easy.

Great communication, solid customer service, and a high-quality product. There aren't many affordable operations where you can personally speak to the person doing your work, from start to finish!

Here are all the basic settings at his site, but he can definitely do something custom, if need be: http://www.boonerings.com/stone.htm

Another vouch for Boone, he made my husband's ring which he has worn daily for over 3 years with no problems.

Safe to send an $18,000 diamond to?

*im not very trusting* :P

I looked at some of the Danhov stuff in person and they do feel very sturdy :) but you are paying quite a lot for a label!

The boone rings will give you the look but you might not have the 'substantial' weight of platinum or a precious metal, which may or may not bother you :)

Cobalt Chrome is heavier than Titanium, therefore, may be more suited to those who prefer a heavier ring: http://www.boonerings.com/cobaltchrome.htm

Yeah I've been talking with him and Cobalt sounds pretty heavy. Problem with it for tension rings is it's not very springy.

Honestly, I think the Danhov setting looks far sleeker and more elegant than the Boone setting - if I were looking to set a beautiful diamond in a spiral setting like that I'd want the setting to "shine" as much as the stone. I'd be tempted to consider the Danhov in 14k.

Yeah the Danhov is simply gorgeous.

Doesn't 14k scratch/dent pretty easily?

Then again for the almost $4k diff, just get another one when the current one dents up too much...twice :D
