ana: it just so happens that you and i have similar tastes when it comes to this particular stone...
Thanks!

I wonder if the prongs of the square ring below could not have been finished into a claw shape.

it is very classy and elegant. nice choice!

Hey guys- There are other choices besides claw or V tip.
The "ball" type prong also works well on square corners.
The Vatche design is gorgeous- they are using a mock double prong ( actually very close to the "ball" type of prong), so you can still protect the corner.
These can also be used at the outside edge of a trilliant

david that is some great advice -- a mock claw prong. i like the sound of that

do you know if you can easily change the head/prongs on an existing setting? or is that impossible?

LL- it is elegant, that is the perfect word to describe that setting.

I saw no picture attached to this posting, and I had been following along pretty well until trying to see the photo you are talking about, LLL. Why does widget see it? Is it the photo windowshopper posted?

Deb

Deb: I don''t have a photo yet as i''m still deciding whether or not to move forward with the stone. but ana posted four pictures in a single post and my ring would look very much like the top right one -- though with a 1.5 ct. stone. it would be set in a platinum setting with two slightly tapered bagettes.

i know that there''s been a lot of skepticism about the stone and i still have the option of going with a traditional emerald cut, but i saw this stone twice in person, in different lights, with the setting, and i have to say as a girl who loves emerald cuts (i know this isn''t one) it looks lovely.

Okay, LL, moment of truth.

If you got a phone call from the vendor in question telling you that this stone was gone, would you die inside a little everytime you thought about it? Would you always regret not moving on it? If so, then buy it. If you love it, that''s all that matters. It''s not my ring. It''s yours. When a stone calls to you, sometimes you just have to answer. If it wouldn''t bother you that it''s gone, then pass and wait for something else. Just my .02.

because i was so completely smitten

we put a deposit on the stone to hold it and my BF is going to go back tomorrow and talk with the jeweler about how to set it properly...i''m using today and tomorrow to see if any of the other vendors find something that is unreal...

...though i think my heart has been won
emlove.gif

just a little safety net response to someone that mentioned i''d have a really hard time selling or trading in this particular stone -- the store i''m dealing with will give the full purchase price of original diamond on subsequent trade-ins in -- so iafter this ring and i become aquainted and time passes, then if for some reason i should long for those extra traditional EC facets i have options

Congrates!!!
Wear it in good health and may he pop the question soon :}

It''s so strange as much as i want him to pop the question soon, i kind of want to pause life at this moment. the excitment, the anticipation, the overall floaty feeling....

LL I think that stone is unique and beautiful. I would be wary of the corners but if it''s "speaking" to you AND you have the trade up option in the case you don''t like it why not just go for it!

i think that the number of happy princess cut ring owners puts my mind at ease about the corners

OK...thanks for the clarification, widget. I am very happy for you, LLL. It seems as if you will get the stone you truly want, but with, "insurance" as well! May you float for as long as it is enjoyable...and then become engaged!

Hugs,
Deb
