Hi all,
35.gif

We picked out a diamond from our local jewelry store but just put a deposit on it so we can make sure it's a good deal.

Round - GIA Certified
1.03Cts. / 6.51mm
G Color
VS2 Clarity
Polish / Symmetry: VG VG
Depth 61
Table 59

They started at 6400.00 but they came down to 6000.00 even. They don't carry the Verragio line but they'll set the diamond for free.

For the Engagement Ring, I chose two very different styles from the same designer (VERRAGIO) but can't make up my mind so I hope you'll give me your comments and guidance.

Ring 1: ENG-0069P

Ring 2: PAR3049R

Runner Up: EUR-8015

When I first started looking I was thinking about this style PAR-3008R but we thought it's going to be too much so picked the other two styles and I like the runner up as well but not as much as the first two.

Help!!

Thank you!

Do you have the crown and pavilon angles? I need these 2 very important data in order to assess if the stone is well cut aka sparkly.

Also, I'm not a fan of 60/60 stones (60% table, 60% depth) but that doesn't mean they aren't pretty. Many prefer rounds with these stats:
table 54-57%
depth 60-62%
crown angle 34-35
pavilion angle 40.7 to 41
polish and symmetry should be at least very good to excellent

Hi Chrono!

Thank you for your comments. Tell you the truth we didn''t get the crown and pavillion angles but I just emailed the jeweler asking for those.

When we were looking at the diamond with a naked eye and with the jewelers'' loope , it did look very clear and really sparkly even without all those bright lights.

This one was the best deal compared to some other stones we saw. So I''ll update the post as soon as I get those angles.

Thanks again,

Valerie

You are welcome. I would expect a GIA graded VS2 to be very clean.

We normally see smaller tables around here, but if you have been comparing diamonds and this one stood out, then it is well worth you considering if you love the stone.

I shouldn''t answer the diamond question, as I do not know enough

However, I like setting # 2 the best :)

Valerie, I''d love to see you get 3008. It knocks my socks off. Is there a big, big diff in price?

Hi UCLABelle & Lorelei,

Thank you!

We looked at about six diamonds between 1.00 to 1.20Cts and this one looked the best with and without the loope. I did notice some larger weight diamonds looked smaller than this one so I guess that has something to do with the table.

About the ring I am kind of thorn between two very different looks as you can tell. The first one has very clean and smooth line for a classic look and the second one is very unique. I''ve never seen anything like that before and the side view is amazing. I would really like to see it on a finger. I did a search for hand shots but the closest thing I found is the DiamondGirl''s Verragio ring PAR-3052R from the SMTR forum https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/verragios-new-paradiso-collection.81887/ . They are similar but not the same but that one is beautiful as well.

Hi purrfectpear,

Oh no, you are now tempting me to go back to my first pick. This is hard work, picking an engagement ring.

The reason I kind of moved away from the 3008R was because originally we were thinking about a larger diamond so I thought it would look better but now we "almost" bought a 1.03 so I am afraid the 3008R may take it away from the center. I still love it but I can''t decide.

crown angle: 35.7

Ring number one! ENG-0069P

That ring is awesome, very classic and clean but still unique. Totally cool. If I could afford going that high for a setting I would be all over that.

I don''t wear any rings, but those other styles make me wonder how comfortable they would be to wear. I am assuming some of you have tried them on or own similar styles?

Hello Valerie,

Lots of luck with your diamond and ring shopping!

I am not a diamond expert so I am going to leave that for the pros here to comment on but I think you are on the right track for the engagement ring.

I do have a Verragio ring, it''s the PAR-3052R from the Paradiso Collection. It''s a tough call choosing between the ENG-0069P and the PAR-3049R or PAR-3008R. I remember trying on the ENG-0069P when we started shopping and that was the first ring caught my eye in the jeweler''s showcase but then when they brought the new arrival tray from their back room with the Paradiso rings, I knew right then I wanted to have one of the Paradiso rings.

It''s a very different styling so you need to choose what you like but in terms of comfort they are both very comfortable, specially the Paradiso rings have that unique scrolling design which helps with the spinning and they don''t leave a mark on the finger like most rings do. I''m loving it!

Let us know what you decide...

I''m sorry but your stone does not look to be well cut. The HCA scores it as only 5.5 and you''d want the score to be anywhere between 0 and 2 (sometime 2.5 is all right).
Light Return = Good
Fire = Poor
Scintillation = Fair
Spread = VG

I would prefer to see mostly VG and excellents, not good/fair/poor.

Valerie, the diamond appears to be what is called a steep deep with the crown and pavilion angles. This can mean that the diamond may leak light, and not perform as well as it could do. If you truly love it, then please check it out in different lights if the jeweller will let you, before pulling the trigger, but I would suggest looking for some more contenders.

I am really glad I posted the diamond and the ring here. Now that I know a little more about the diamond quality we are going to ask the jeweler to show us more diamonds with the crown and pavillion angles also to see if they have any AGS certified diamonds.

About the ring I am going back and forth between the ENG-0069P and the PAR-30049R. They are both really great looking rings I just need to decide which one I prefer wearing more.

Thanks again all but specially Chrono and Lorelei for the diamond details...

You are very welcome! Ask to see some AGS0 and GIA Excellent cut grade, to make finding a well cut diamond easier.
