My skin is going through some serious changes right now that are making me cringe. I think this is an aging/hormonal thing. My chest and neck literally feel like sandpaper, but the skin isn’t flaking. The rest of me is weird too. Just dryer, less firm, not as pretty. I was thinking of fake tanning the hell out of it à la Trump (roll the R for effect please) but I’m pretty sure that will just highlight my issues and make me look like a supporter.

How’s your skin doing? Do you have any secrets to share? Any products you love? I’d love to hear what is working for the lovely ladies of Pricescope!

Skinceuticals CE Ferulic is pretty good. My skin tone and texture have improved a lot. It's expensive but I think it's worth it. Plus a bottle lasts me almost 6 months.

For procedures, I get professional microneedling every 3 months. It helps tremendously. Again, expensive.

My skin is fragile. It doesn't look dry on my face/neck, but it feels it. I can't do anything about it. It's mostly the meds I'm on for autoimmune issues. I do use acids (AHA, BHA) and serums, but in the end nothing makes a permanent change. I don't want to try Retin A. I strongly considered it, but then didn't want to end up worse off. YMMV of course!

Do you have the plasma (PRP) done with your micro needling? What improvements are you seeing? I have been thinking about starting this but haven’t talked to anyone who’s ever really had it done and I feel hesitant.

Phytic peel from www.makeupartistschoice.com

Start low and slow with peels... this is a nice basic peel.

They always have a code: TWENTY for 20% off

I don't have it with the plasma. My dermatologist doesn't see any benefit. I started microneedling to improve texture and reduce pores. I am fair and have reddish blotchiness. Lots of sun damage. Anyway I did 7 treatments in about 9 months. I literally couldn't believe the before and after pics. It looks like I had an eye lift and a more defined jawline. Plus the pores are reduced and the texture is better. I am sold on it. I do maintenance treatments every 3 months now.

Microdermabrasion once a year. Botox every 7 months and filler for two forehead divots when I ran into a door knob on two separate occasions (the wonders of lacking stereovision) every 3 years. Every 5 years I get flat flesh colored bumps (DPN removal ) burned off the sides of my face.

Right now I apply a moisturizing toner, regenerist serum fragrance free, and a moisturizer like total effects 7-in-1 fragrance free after a shower.

My skin is super sensitive and hyper reactive. It was quiet for a bit but it is acting up with a new issue since October and nothing is calming my eyebrow area and I have lost almost all of the left eyebrow hair secondary to the inflamed skin under that eyebrow. I have been to 2 excellent dermatologists but with many dermatogical conditions it is challenging to get it under control. I am not even 100%sure of the diagnosis. Still under review.

I’ve never had any cosmetic procedures and cannot use any anti aging lotions or creams but that’s because it would absolutely inflame my already poor skin. Before I hit 40 I had a perfect peaches and cream complexion without any marks on it. I used to get remarks about how beautiful my skin was. So I guess I was fortunate enough to enjoy it for more than half my life so I am grateful for that.

The worst part of it is the discomfort because at this point the appearance doesn’t matter to me. Not when the itching bordering on real pain is so front and center.

What works best for me. Avene thermal spray and La Roche Posay dermo cleanser and ultra toleriane moisturizer and the regular toleriane moisturizer and occasionally avene Cicalfate.
I also use the la Roche Posay eczema line for my body.

Thanks everyone for sharing what works for you and I am following this thread with interest.

@House Cat I hope you find something that works for you!

I don't do anything special yet (I'm not 40 until later this year). I always take my makeup off and I moisturise with a night cream every evening. I use day cream if I've showered during the day. I usually avoid the sun, we don't get much over here anyway.
I've moisturised religiously since I was a teenager so I think that has helped so far, I'm just waiting for the day it hits me. It feels quite dry after washing, but I get an oily forehead during the day.

Ummm she's :confused2:. She has youthful skin and I would have pinched her cheek (the ones on her face) had she not been having skin issues lately. Trust me it would have snapped back like a 28 year old's lolol. And when she bundled up in her jacket it made me chuckle bc Missy looks like a 12 year old lolol. Im 39 and missy looks younger than my bio age.

I know!! I’ve seen her photos!!

PB, from what I have seen, you have beautiful skin too

HI:

I second Ceg's recommendations for serums. At night, I use thick creme--every brand, you name it from Vaseline to La Mer. During the day something lighter under make up, but I never skip Vit C serum.

cheers--Sharon

I just starting using L’Oreal Hydra Genius “for dry skin” about a week ago and it has made a huge difference in the appearance of my face. I read that it works best applied to wet skin, so that is what I’ve been doing. It works better than anything else I’ve ever tried for hydrating.

Following. I really need to develop a regime! I am very fair and recently have got this reddish blotchiness develop and I HATE it!!!
I do have the skinceuticals CE ferulic which I really ought to use more, and just impulse ordered some retinol cream.

I’m gonna go look up Missy’s products because she looks like a teenager ;)2

Well, you know, beans plump up with a good soak.:cheeky:

Girl you have beautiful skin and I bet if you did nothing it would still be beautiful. But I think you need a good eye exam cause you see your friends through rose colored (haha get it-rose) glasses!:lol:

My skin is garbage! Not really, just lots of issues in the fall/winter with dryness and subsequent inflammation no matter how proactive I am. I also have some lovely adult acne that flares up if I touch my face the wrong way. My issues are minor compared to my mom’s (she has horrific allergic reactions to basically everything except Cheetos, oddly...lol) and others who’ve described their skin adventures here. Still, not fun, and I spend a fair amount of time worrying about them. I don’t care about wrinkles. I have laugh lines, crow’s feet now, and some very slight forehead lines (I’ve seen many more and much deeper on men and women my age). Some sun damage on my chest which was expected. Nope, I don’t have the skin of a 20 year old anymore, and that’s ok—I remember how dumb and unappreciative I was when I had it! Well, except for the acne. I’m always incredulous looking in the mirror, like, in what world is it fair to have wrinkles and acne at the same time?!?!?!!!

Anyway if you want to feel younger just move to a university town where the undergrads mistake you for a grad student all through your 30s and apparently into your 40s because they have zero frame of reference for what someone looks like between their age and their parents’ ages. This is how I reconcile my fading youth, anyway.

I have rosacea that has calmed in recent years (possibly due to menopause and also learning what triggers flares for me). Before it calmed down, I tried many different skin lines/products with varying results. I finally figured out that for me, it's most important to keep my skin barrier intact. I don't use anything harsh (scrubs, glycolic acid, etc.). I don't do any peels or cosmetic procedures and would be afraid to. My current skincare line (for over 2 years now) is Dermalogica. I use their cleansers, serums, and moisturizers. Once in a while, I use a retinol product from Kate Somerville and my skin seems to tolerate it well. I have had good results with Dermalogica - I'd say my skin looks the best it has in years. My primary goals are to be gentle and keep my skin moisturized.

Yes same here. Rosacea and key is to keep skin care regime minimal and non invasive. Glad you found a good combo for you!

Alas, it sags.

Thanks, Missy! I am glad that I'm not the only one who has found this minimal and non-invasive regime helpful (but sorry you also have rosacea - no spicy food for me anymore, boo!).

House Cat, I wanted to mention that I tried something new. I've no idea if it will help with your current skin problems but I'm really amazed at how much my skin has improved in texture and "glow" since starting with this product. I read a positive review of it somewhere and even though I am often scared to try new things with my skin, I threw caution to the wind and gave it a try. It's a Kiehl's product. Here's a link to it on their site:https://www.kiehls.com/powerful-str...&dwvar_595_size=50ML#start=1&cgid=justArrived I'm using it as directed, twice a day, after cleansing and before moisturizer.

Also, browsing the Kiehl's site, I saw this and thought of you as it might possibly be additional help with texture issues (the reviews are good on Kiehl's site and on Sephora): https://www.kiehls.com/nightly-refi...e=1.0 fl. oz. Bottle#start=8&cgid=face-serums

There are a LOT (like A LOT!) of junk products out there. Even expensive ones, which is doubly insulting.

Look up your products on https://www.beautypedia.com for reviews by dermatologists, complete with citations of scientific literature. It’ll help you find products that are truly affective and teach you about what to avoid.

It’s interesting that blueiris is finding success with a serum that has the same ingredient as the serum I just started using - hyaluronic acid.

Oh, thank you! That serum looks really amazing. I’m going to have to try it!

I love all Murad products. They have done wonders for my skin and people constantly guess I’m a decade younger than I am.

My regular routine (all Murad products): Wash with only water in the morning and follow with a skin lightening serum (to help with prior sun damage), eye cream, and all-over moisturizer (plus sunscreen if I’ll be outside). Nighttime I wash with a cleanser and then put on an anti-aging serum of some sort (I have a few I rotate through) and a nighttime moisturizer. Once a week I’ll use a scrub to help with exfoliation; if I do it more often than that my skin dries out. I have a bunch of masks too but I keep forgetting to use them!

I've had terrible skin since before high school all through my adult life. Acne, super sensitive to all kinds of products, etc. It wasn't until I stopped wearing make up and switched from regular cleaners/moisturizers on the market to home made products instead. I think it's called oil pulling or something like that. I use mostly avocado oil, aloe, and certain essential oils. My skin is clear, way healthier looking/feeling, and I think I look younger now than I did a few years ago.

Sure I'm a little greasy in the mornings/night but that's a small price to pay =)2

It's my hands that are really starting to get dry at the moment, it might be just the winter months though. I don't think they are as bad when the weather is warmer.

I can so relate to this. When he was home my son would tease me mercilessly about my greasiness, ostentatiously wiping his phone after I used it lol. In 55 years I've tried more face creams/systems than I can count, from the sublime (Clinique) to the ridiculous (La Prairie). I have been a constant user of retin-A and sunscreen for many, many years. I'm doing Dr Perricone now and it's good. These days it's hyaluronic acid, but it's always about removing the top layer faster than it wants to shed itself.

Now if they found a cream that would block the effects of gravity I'd be on it! I debated posting a photo, but figured at this point I don't care + sunglasses. The red cheeks are from the blow dryer, and demonstrate my tendency toward rosacea when faced with heat. Lip gloss only, no makeup, no retouching (which I have seen many, many times. We should all look as good as the photo retouching apps make us lol)
