Hello

Can you guys give me some info on this diamond? There is no returning at this point but still interested in info.

GIA 2173828064
I've been lurking around trying to learn about stones and not sure if I am grasping it all. Looking at the report and seeing what I see from posts about other stones this is what I think I understand about this diamond:

1. The depth is too deep, so paying for weight no one will see.
2. The IF is unnecessary, hikes up the price and probably would have been better put towards an excellent cut for better performance.
3. The HCA gives it a 4.8 which as I understand it's not a good rating.

I personally feel that it's a small stone, whish it was larger (larger spread? not sure if that is right) but then again don't most. Though it is likely my untrained eye but I do feel it sparkles like crazy outside and oddly enough in my bathroom that has yellow lights. It just doesn't do well under the office lights at work which are fluorescent bulbs. Is it possible for this stone to perform well despite the issues? Also, it says no fluorescence but a few days ago outside on a super sunny day, I swore it looked bluish to me. Is that what they mean by fluorescence? I read about the black light thing to check fluorescence but haven't tried that. Also I see this like line in the middle of the diamond when I view it from the side, I'm not sure if it's the cut, a reflection or a crack. And I also see rainbows which I read real diamonds shouldn't have, and this confuses me as I think of them as prism. Are rainbows okay, part of the fire or what? No idealscope images, would have loved to have seen some.

I've been lurking around trying to learn about stones and not sure if I am grasping it all. Looking at the report and seeing what I see from posts about other stones this is what I think I understand about this diamond:

1. The depth is too deep, so paying for weight no one will see. Yes, it is too deep and the angles
are not complimentary. Is the stone returnable?

2. The IF is unnecessary, hikes up the price and probably would have been better put towards an excellent cut for better performance. I would never go for an IF over cut. Plus I go for size
so I would probably never end up with an IF anyway.

3. The HCA gives it a 4.8 which as I understand it's not a good rating. Should be looking for stones that score 2 or less.

I personally feel that it's a small stone, whish it was larger (larger spread? not sure if that is right) but then again don't most. Also has a slightly thick to thick girdle eating up weight. Though it is likely my untrained eye but I do feel it sparkles like crazy outside and oddly enough in my bathroom that has yellow lights. Great! It just doesn't do well under the office lights at work which are fluorescent bulbs. Is it possible for this stone to perform well despite the issues? Not as well as a well cut stone and not in as many conditions as a well cut stone. Also, it says no fluorescence but a few days ago outside on a super sunny day, I swore it looked bluish to me. Probably reflecting the sky. Is that what they mean by fluorescence? I read about the black light thing to check fluorescence but haven't tried that. Also I see this like line in the middle of the diamond when I view it from the side, I'm not sure if it's the cut, a reflection or a crack. It is a reflection of the girdle. No worries. And I also see rainbows which I read real diamonds shouldn't have, and this confuses me as I think of them as prism. Not sure what you were reading. My stones facets can look a variety of colors (depending on what they are reflecting) and also put off fire in a variety of colors. Are rainbows okay, part of the fire or what? No idealscope images, would have loved to have seen some.

If it is not returnable, enjoy it...from what you say it doesnt sound all bad. Is it in a ring? pendant?
Any pictures?

If it is not returnable, you are just going to drive yourself nuts with the folks here telling you all the flaws that you mostly seem to already understand.

I wouldn't worry too much since the stone is small and can't be returned anyway. But if in the future you decide to search for another diamond, we will be glad to help you find one within parameters that will get you an excellent cut stone! I'd definitely recommend only looking at GIA Excellent cut from here on out, and we can help you identify the better ones of those.
