Tell me about the uplifting things you do when you’re sad

I love this whole thread, thank you everyone. Xsouzie tell me how to play with my shoes! Trying on? Organizing? Which brands? Any flats I need to buy?

I collect mostly Louboutins. Basically, I'll go in my dressing room, sit in my chair and stare at my shoes LOL! Sometimes, I will dust the shelves, re-organize shoes or put them on and walk around. :P2 I haven't worn any of my heels since the pandemic began so it feels nice to just put them on! These days, I'm either in UGGs or sneakers. That being said, I have a smattering of Gucci and Chanel ballet flats but the ones I reach for the most are my Chanel espadrilles...so so comfy!

Oh and I also keep sachets scented with rose essential oil in my dressing room drawers. The smell is divine so being in there is doubly therapeutic!!

I cook and bake….a LOT. And since my my family can’t eat all that I cook, I share the love with neighbors and friends.

I wish you lived next door to me!!!

There is something about the texture. They are soft but yet toothy. And not too sweet, hence the problem!

You‘re making me want to go back and get more!

This sounds super fun. Organizing my closet is a fun project for me. I think I will work on this, and feature some shoes! Any tips for a good chair?

I live in the UK so it’s a brand here,

these are my faves,

They look amazing!!! When I was in London as a young (poor) gal, I stopped by every single hotel chocolat to enjoy their free samples!! That store is a feast for the palate but also for the eyes. They have some really beautiful options!

I can’t tell what is the name or flavour of the ones pictured?

And they keep bringing out new flavours, I’ve just had an incredible Baklava truffle. The ones in the photo are hazelnut praline with 70% cocoa on the outside :lickout:

Wow!!! That sounds divine.

Go for a walk in sunshine, preferably a park or forest with trees. Sunshine helps lift your mood as does the fresh air from trees.
If you don’t have a dog, go down to your local dog park and “love on” some furry friends. Dog people also tend to be kind and chatty, especially about their fur babies.
At night, buy one of those starlight projectors and get a diffuser with a favourite smell, I find “green” smells very uplifting. Add favourite music, or relaxation music and relax.
I like to water the garden, it’s a Zen activity.
I also enjoy cleaning my jewellery.

I whine to hubby who promptly reminds me how blessed I am. At times, it doesn’t feel like enough and that’s when I journal my feelings.

I love our rowing machine! Otherwise I love to go for an easy jog or nice walk somewhere with interesting things to look at. I also stop and tell everyone walking dogs how cute they are and pet them if the owners say it’s OK!

I’m not much of a crafter, but I can imagine something like knitting would be calming. I do have a journal and I use it mostly for venting. It’s a good way to get it out without unloading on another person. I like to read but it has to be the right kind of reading.

I love to sing very, very loud and have a dance party with my kiddos :) definitely cheers me up!

OHMIGOD I was just gonna post that I SING OUT LOUD! (and no, I am not Elf...LOL)

I also talk to animals and pet owners when outside for a walk. Nothing like petting a cute pooch to take things down a notch. And Exercise is very beneficial for me to relieve stress.

The pandemic is getting me down, and buying jewelry as a cheer-up is really not going to work for my budget long-term haha!!

I have seasonal depression and when I was replying to the Year in review thread, I realized most of my jewelry purchases happen in the winter! I only work part time and live in a cold weather area so I’m stuck inside a lot.
We have a 5000 acre county park nearby and weather permitting, it’s a great stress reliever. I like to cook too so I will dig out my cookbooks and try to find new things to make. Another vote here for closet cleaning! Very therapeutic for me! Basement is next!

For me, being outside in the winter in daylight is really critical. As long as the temp is above 20F, I try to take a walk just around my neighborhood during daylight hours. Getting that sun to hit my retinas and turn things on in my brain is critical. I get a huge mood boost from it, even if I have to initially drag my sorry behind out of bed to get there.

I have started sewing (after a 25-year break) and am making quilts now. It's very soothing for me and I love, love, love selecting fabrics and quilt designs. After I make enough for family and friends, I will make some for local shelters.

@kenny My son had a cockatoo named Einstein. He was so cute. He never said a word..We thought he couldn’t talk. When my son went on vacation he would board him at a place that boards other large birds. Einstein was in heaven because my son worked long hours so he didn’t get much company. When I would go to visit my son my son always greeted me with “Hi Mom!”. Once when my son went on a trip..he boarded Einstein as usual. He thought of it as Einstein’s vacation too because he got to visit with his friends. Once I decided to visit Einstein at the boarding place. When I walked in he got so excited..He said as clear as day, “Hi Mom!”. It was the only words he ever said. My son decided to let him live with a friend who had other birds. He had horrible guilt about Einstein being alone all day. He was starting to get stressed out and losing feathers..My son cried over the decision. In time everyone adjusted..Einstein started growing new feathers and enjoyed his new home. We still miss him but we know he’s happier with his friend.

Aww. :kiss2:
how sweet.

Yes, these birdies are very intelligent and social.
They need a lot of attention, interaction and affection.
IMO there are very few people who should have them, because there are very few people who understand their needs, and fewer still who can meet them, especially the time thing.

But yes, these birds can really can be so much more than a pet.

People need to think of birds more like they think of human kids than pets like dogs or cats.

I guess it really depends on the level of sad you’re talking about.

Surface sad, I’m a little blue…I’ll read a book

Very sad, I sit in the shower and think deeply on the situation. Throw on comfy sweats and sit under my electric blanket asking myself “what do you need?” All day and giving it to myself

Deep grief, I curl up in a ball and allow myself to feel my feelings without distractions until I feel like it’s healthy for me to move again

I do a big chore project that will take 2 -3 days. I pick one I have been putting off for a myriad of reasons/ excuses. I do it all by myself with no help from the family. I get totally immersed in it and play my old CDs (late 1960s thru 1970s music) and sing along. Last weekend I cleared out our medicine closet, painted the walls with a mixture of old leftover paint ( turned out to be a creamy mauveish/tan color and painted the 5 shelves, trim and door white. I then organized everything in clear plastic bins with lids and labels. Bandaids, gauze, tape, cold medicines, vitamins prescription meds, creams, lotions and potions etc. all have their place. It took a day just to clear, sort and toss things and another two days to scrub, prime, paint and organize. It really gives a mental boost as hard work with a nice result really can lift one’s spirits. This past weekend I painted my daughter‘s bedroom in a color she recently chose . So her room went from a purple pinkish mauve ( ugh hated it but she loved it) to a mint green. New curtains and bed spread and an oriental carpet make it more grownup and sophisticated. She does not know I have done it and will be surprised when she comes home for Spring break. It really lifts my mood when I open the closet or walk by her room. My labor is free and paint is cheap and the results are worth it. A win win.

I think you might need to check out this book!

I really love these levels of self care!

Play piano or guitar.
Read a book, but taking care to read the right type of book for that mood.
Socialize with my parrot.
Take a long walk with my parrot on my shoulder.
Play chess with the computer at www.lichess.org, but pick a low difficulty playing level so I win.
Escape into something streaming, like old classic films or documentaries.
Surf around the Internet, just following my nose.
Yank some chains here on PS. :Up_to_something:

I also like to just sit and think. Sometimes I'll put my thoughts into writing.

I love this. I am not a very good chess player, but I recommend lichess.org as well. I think it is better than chess.com

My boy plays the piano, and when he gets stressed, he goes to the piano and compose his own songs. I think knowing how to play a musical instrument is a great way to destress.

This is the one I have. It's a scrumptious velvet. IIRC, I bought it for under $400 on sale from Wayfair. =)2

Wow! If I was a drag queen I'd propose marriage. :kiss2:
Oh ... wait ...

I go for a long walk in the bush and try to appreciate nature & look at the bigger picture. Remind myself how blessed I am!

Music used to be my escape, but it doesn't work for me so much anymore. I have to get out in the country, usually along a river somewhere...received_2099638970210667.jpeg

I make playlists for various moods or activities. I recently made a pandemic playlist with some uplifting/empowerment songs and some belt out all the frustration songs. Styx “Too Much Time on my Hands” is a good one.
