"I'll give you a 'twuahpic' ... TARIFFS ... Now Discuss..."

I see tariffs as a leader's deceptive underhanded way of saying, "Read my lips; No new taxes."
The leader is just manipulating the "optics" of what taxes really are ... stealing from our wallets and purses.
Imposing tariffs on a country's exports looks like the country is getting penalized - but it is the ultimate buyers of those goods who is really paying the "tariff".
Then the leader can say, "I didn't raise taxes".

How stupid do they think we are? (actually pretty stupid!) :knockout:

The statement that the pain from the tariff war is temporary is wrong. If the war doesn't last long, perhaps prices will drop a bit. Prices on goods will not fall to what they were pre-tariff war but I fear that is consumers' expectation.

Bazinga!
It was all just a joke. Haha! That guy sure is a card!

It's amazing how a tanking stock market can change policy. It's also amazing how fast a stock market rebounds when a policy is changed.

From a 2021 AP article -- note that the agreement re: troops was already in effect but the current peeps in charge apparently weren't aware and didn't realize they were being played for fools by being promised what already exists.

...has struck an agreement with Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala to temporarily surge security forces to their borders in an effort to reduce the tide of migration to the U.S. border.

The agreement comes as the U.S. saw a record number of unaccompanied children attempting to cross the border in March, and the largest number of Border Patrol encounters overall with migrants on the southern border — just under 170,000 — since March 2001.

According to White House press secretary, Mexico will maintain a deployment of about 10,000 troops, while Guatemala has surged 1,500 police and military personnel to its southern border and Honduras deployed 7,000 police and military to its border “to disperse a large contingent of migrants” there. Guatemala will also set up 12 checkpoints along the migratory route through the country."
