Tariffs on gems from Indonesia?

There had been a 32% tariff imposed on goods imported from Indonesia (not sure if that included gems, but I assume so); however, it was paused for further negotiations. So at this time, I don't believe there are any.

Hello all - I just wanted to give an update. As was discussed, the tariffs imposed on imports from Indonesia had been 32%. That amount, along with all other reciprocal tariffs, have been "paused" during negotiations (for 90 days as of right now). The only country excluded from the pause is China. But there still seems to be a blanket 10% on all imports during the pause. And it does apply to gems as well. I know this because a friend who imports gems recently and unexpectedly had to pay the 10%. So that seems to be the current state of things!

Thank you

When purchasing rough gems in Tanzania, I would need to pay an export tariff in Tanzania to the government there, then at the Kilimanjaro Airport, going through customs the would always pull you aside and inspect your sealed parcel and paperwork. Often to avoid spending too much time here and potentially missing your flight, a $50 bill would be handed to the inspector as a tip. Tariffs are really nothing new in the gem business.
In the past importing rough natural gems had no tariff, but lab created material did.
