Tappering on a Pave Band -- what do you think?

Hello --

I''d love your opinions. I''m having a ring made for a 2 ct cushion and just saw the metal. The shoulders are cathedral style the the band will be 1/3 pave and tappered. It will go from 2.3 nearest to the diamond to 1.8 at the back of the ring. I''m wondering how noticable you think this tappering will be. Will it be really subtle -- or really obvious? -- just wondering.

Also - do you think this will conflict with a pave wedding band that won''t be tappered?

Please share your thoughts.

On hand, just about a third of the ring is visible from inbetween the fingers - so the tapering will not show. It is meant to make the ring more confortable to wear (because the fingers bend inwards towards the palm and not the other way around, so the ring''s band mustn''t get in the way of this movement) and it definitely helps when multiple rings are stacked. I would not tappe a wedding band - that it makes sense to be even all around IMO.

personally i am not a fan of tapering bands...i feel like they disrupt the flow of the ring. but that''s just my own feel. do you really want the tapering or is that just the way it is?

My ring tapers lightly in the back. The part between my fingers are even so you can''t tell unless you look at the ring off my finger or from the side. I think it does make it more comfortable and I have tried on non-tapering wedding bands and they sit flush with my ring.

Thank you for your replies. I appreciate your thoughts. I''m basing this ring off of an antique ring I love similar to the legacy without the halo. -- the problem is I cannot do exact specs because the antique is so worn it goes from 2.3 to .8 in the back... so that''s a more drastic taper. I was just curious if this taper was even going to show up... they did mention that they would use slight larger melee for the first few diamonds so I imagine it will show a bit in the front, at least. I''m a bit worried about how it will come out because I don''t see many pave bands like this (tapered) -- but, the antique it''s based on is really beautiful/unique.

Anyway, it''s good to know that these bands seem to work okay with regular wedding bands...
