Hello!

Have been trying to decide whether tapered baguettes are worth getting, because of the many stories of them breaking when knocked or when the ring (even platinum) bends. I''m not asking so much whether or not they are nice, I think they are. I am just wondering whether you think it would be something you would want put into a ring that you want to last for a looooooong time. =)

What do you all think?

Thanks!

I love that look - I think it is so classic and wish I had them on my solitaire. I have no experience of the longevity of that type of setting with bags, but it is one of THE classic styles IMO and I would think hold up reasonably well.

I''ve cracked one after 4 years. They''re fairly inexpensive to replace.

They aren''t expensive if they need to be replaced. As long as you buy a high quality setting so that they won''t just "fall out" you''ll be fine.

I think they have the classic look and they should be fine as soon as they are set correctly in to the right mounting.

Hi! I have tapered baguettes in some of my rings, and nothing has ever happened to them. I wouldn''t worry.

It''s been a year for mine and I''ve had no problems. I''ve actually never heard that they were a problem before your post.

I have also had mine for a year (8.5mm long) with no problems at all -- and I wear the ring everyday.

Good luck!

no problems - go for it!

I''m having a custom setting made in white gold and it features tapered baguettes. The designer insisted that he needed to allow at least .5mm of metal on either side of the baguettes, in order to keep the ring from bending and allowing them to pop out.

I would not worry. They are very inexpensive to replace.

I cracked one in half when my husband shut my hand in the car door. The ring took the majority of the force and while it split the baguette in half it did not pop out. I used and abused my ring for many years and only the car door caused any permanent damage.

I think its alot safer than melee.
