Hi, I want to say hello. I am new to Pricescope. This is ColorKat and I am crazy about Tanzanite! I am in the process of completing the design of a Tanzanite and Diamond Engagement ring. I can''t wait to show you all. Does anyone else share the Tanzanite passion?

I love tanzanite as well! I own a few pieces. It is such a soft stone though, it is not really for everyday wear in a ring IMHO. I had a ring custom designed with a
bezel and the first time I wore it I put a teeny tiny nick in the table. Be careful! I dont wear my ring as much but my other pieces I do. Cant wait to see yours!

Yes, it''s one of my favorite stones!

Ditto, you will need to be super-careful and really baby the tanzy. I have a tsavorite for my e-ring which is a fair bit more durable and I only wear it when I go out or we have people over.

Do post pics in the Coloured Stones forum.

I too love Tanzanite. But I rarely wear it in ring form because it is so fragile.

My first e-ring (first marriage) was a 1 ct emerald-cut tanzanite with emerald-cut diamond sidestones set in WG. I loved it, but after we got it, a jeweler told me that tanzanites are too soft for everyday wear. I still wear it sometimes as a RHR (my husband now doesn''t know that it was a gift from the ex)

It''s not the greatest pic, but here it is:

Here''s one more pic of the ring with my John Hardy iolite pave clasp bracelet:

I''ve got quite a few Tanzanite pieces and if you search under my name I think you''ll probably find photos. A high grade piece of Tanzanite is scrumptious!!! Lucky you!

I have a couple of comments - as others have said, Tanzanite is a soft stone and really shouldn''t be worn every day. Having said that, you will want to wear your e-ring every day SO, let''s be practical .....

1. Always take if off when going anywhere near water. I very cleverly managed to damage my first ever Tanzanite ring by not taking it off and exposing it to water time and time again. After several months, the ring went cloudy and was awful!

2. Tanzanite is susceptible to thermal shock - i.e. if you''re sunbathing and then jump in a swimming pool (i.e. going from hot to cold) or putting your hand in the freezer to take out food etc., it can damage the stone. It can crack.

3. If at any point you have to have the Tanzanite unmounted and/or re-set, make sure that the jeweller knows about Tanzanite and doesn''t use heat near the stone (or limits when they do). Unfortunately I''ve known Tanzanite to crack during the process.

Above all else, enjoy your ring and the wonderful pink red and purple flashes you''ll see!
